Ok the dumb question of the day but other than the actual bolt face, is there any difference dimensionally from a standard action bolt and a magnum. I was curious to see if the lugs, bolt rails, ect and such were the same. Thanks..........

There is no appreciable difference but there will almost always be a difference in the head space
if you change bolts.

Just guessing here...

So, there's the safety factor pertaining primarily to headspace even if you're swapping one Rem 700 short action 308 bolt with another Rem 700 short action 308 bolt.

But from an accuracy perspective, you'd want to pay particular attention to squaring everything and any tolerance issues pertaining to the bolt handle and diameter.

A Rem 700 bolt may also be a cleaner swap than a controlled round feed such as Win Model 70 or Mauser 98 which have more mating surfaces.

Most bolts for the same model will fit in another reciever but they "Must be head spaced".
Just like if you buy an after market bolt you have to head space it.

Some recoil lugs will not make good contact and will have to be trued or lapped also.

Also, Accuracy depends on every aspect of squair, true and head space. (It is all important).
