Some times when considering a re barrel and chamber or cartridge change you need to know what round will work without bolt face and extractor work.

I have a cheat sheet/ready reference and thought I would share it with every anyone

Thank You for sharing this information!
I'm certain it took some time to compile all of this data and I know that there are a great many individual shooters who are appreciative of all your efforts!
Again Thanks for sharing !

Hi to the collective.
Has anyone got any idea what cartridge I could use with a bolt face of .4961, the rifle is a 9.3x 64 at the moment , but it needs to be a 300 of some description????
Any ideas of a readily available cartridge.
Many thanks.

I would recommend opening the bolt face to .540 and then you could select any magnum cartridge with that case head diameter see post # 1

Look at the short action and the long action to see what matches you action length.

To start with I respect your input greatly. Still looking at the 6mmIA or the 6mm/284. Bolt face being .470+/-. 20 years ago I ran into a problem with my 308 Norma Mag in a mauser 98 action. The COAL was longer than mag opening would allow the round to feed into the chamber. So I shorten the COAL and when on. Never thinking about it again, but remembering the problem. Now looking at a 6mm build. I am concern about the COAL, because of the longer bullets being used today in longer range shooting and that fine. It's the feed from the mag to the chamber is my concern is about. I generally use slower burning powders in my rifles so my cases are filled up close to the neck. I am looking from 105 grs. to 115 grs bullets to use in that 6mm with a 1-7.5 twist rate. My concern is the COAL and feed from the mag to the chamber and stay away from a highly compacted load.
P>S. I down loaded your info on bolt faces too. Thanks

That was very thoughtful that you have shared this information with everyone who subscribes to this web site!
Thank You !

A little follow up on my build of 6mm rifle. I used a 700 Rem Action, Triggertech trigger, a Bartlein Barrel Metal Grade, 400MODBB30" Heavy Palma, 7 twist, getting a reamer built for 6mm/280AI chamber, and being set up for a muzzle brake or suppressor.

I am guess I am waking up. that JE Custom has passed on. I always love to read his input and his knowledge of the subjects of firearms. He'll be missed greatly, and my thought are with him and family, and friends. I know personally I would read and re-read his blogs, and try and remember what he said or write it down. The newer members have lost out and on a great man information. In my heart I will remember him, and think about him.

I see that 33 Nosler is not anywhere on here. From what I can find it has a .555 bolt face? Any chance the Fierce rifle chambered in 300 WM can have the bolt face opened up to the 33 Nosler dimension? I've been looking hard at a Fierce rifle, but would like to try out the 33 Nosler. I'd be happy to shoot the 300 WM for a while until I could afford to rebarrel and have the bolt face opened up, if it is even possible.

I know I done several M-98 action that the bolt face was open up to allow 308 Norma Mag or 300 WM. Find a gunsmith and ask him or her about that. 280AI case base is the same for a lot of other rifles, like 25/06, 270, 7mm, 30/06., 6mm, 243, and on. Nosler 33 is something I don't know much about.

@USAF Marksman The 33 Nosler has a 0.534 rebate rim diameter like the rest of the Nosler family, short mags, etc. A magnum action should work. The bolt face won't need modification but the feed rails and mag box probably will.
