Best scope for .260

I am new to long range shooting. I just purchased a Savage 12LRP in .260. Now I need to put a scope on it. I have been told great things about several different makes and models. I do not plan to hunt with it anytime soon, will be all for target shooting.

I appreciate advice and suggestions!

The 6-24 Sightron SIII is awful tough to beat for the money. I've had mine next to a Viper PST and the glass was noticeably better in the Sightron. The Sightrons have over 100 MOA of adjustment and their clicks are very tactile and repeatable. I know run 4 of them on my rifles and am looking at getting a 5th.

I have access to 600 yds now. I am new to this long range stuff so I'm sure that'll be plenty for awhile. As for budget, I would like to stick around or under $1000.

I cannot recommend Vortex enough. They have the best warranty in the industry and also some of the best deals and optics out there. I have found my favorite scope that fits my needs the most is the Vortex HS-T 4-16x44 MOA. I just can't get over it. It is not FFP which some guys regularly use, but personally I don't. It also is not illuminated which is often a must for others, but its not for me. I love the reticle, it has hash marks for holdoff, which is great for quick corrections in the field, but it also is not cluttered. It has a 30mm tube and the whole scope is very rugid and built like a tank! The clicks are super precise and strong, something I want in any riflescope and it has 75 MOA of adjustment. The nice thing about it is its price tag, $559. Just can't beat it for the price and for what it brings to the table. Highly recommend it, the money you save in this scope can go to reloading supplies and other equipment such as a rangefinder.

I have a NF Benchrest(32x variable) to take advantage of the superb accuracy of my 260 LRP. A little higher than your budget but great optics and turret reproducibility.

Reliable information about this contract is scarce. SWFA posted a contract number on their website and the Internet created misinformation, which SWFA has not denied. In fact, SWFA has tried to promote the impression that Super Sniper scopes are somehow "mil-spec" or at least have tighter specs than other products. There is absolutely no evidence for this.

As far as anyone can tell, the Navy bought a few Super Sniper 10x42 scopes from Tasco to evaluate them. This is common practice. Tasco supplied a special grease in these scopes to improve submersion stability. No production contract was ever awarded to Tasco or SWFA.

I know from personal experience that the fixed magnification SWFA SuperSniper scopes have low contrast. The variable mag scopes appear to have better contrast.

For target shooting I do not see a reason to buy ffp. You always have time for turrets and usually use max magnification. 10x for this purposes I think is not enough.

I would save $200-300 and buy Leupold Mark-4, TMR, M1 either 4.5-14x50 or 6.5-20x50 depending on range.
