Best $1500 Hunting Rifle

With an ATACR, my 300WM weighs 13.5#.
Probably within a pound and a half when I have my IOR Tactical on it. All else being equal, heavier is steadier and steadier is more consistent and consistency is the key to accuracy. Hard to hit home runs with a broomstick! I can still manage to pack The Beast Around for several miles when I want to so this one feels like a mountain rifle after that.gun)

That's a good weight. About 11# is my preferred weight for extensive carry while still having a solid platform for the long shots. Even then, I support the slung rifle with my same side hand inverted under the butt with a straight arm to take the weight off the shoulder. Learned this method about 35 years(and 40 pounds) ago in the Okavango lugging a heavy double around for days on end.

Howa APC would not be my first choice - The Luth-AR stock is a plus. Good adjustments and light weight. I like the grip. However, I can't say the chassis configuration looks promising for long range precision matches. The concern I would have is the forearm and mag release. You will be shooting through windows and off barricades quite often. Pushing up against the barricade looks like it might activate the mag release. Also the forearm is short and skinny giving way to an AR-15 type hand guard. Looks cool but I'm afraid it would not stabilize the gun well off of the props. The magazine itself looks to be and AISC type mag. There are other guns out there that will work with either an AISC or AR-10 mag. There is no muzzle brake. A 308 is not a beast when it comes to recoil but its no kitten. Put 200 rounds through it in a weekend and your shoulder will start to feel it. The barrel is threaded so you can add a brake, but it will be an extra expense. Bottom line is that this gun might serve you well for a short time but you will quickly tire of it and want something more. Keep looking. There are other choices available.

Same for me,,, all 3 of my custom Remmy's are tack drivers """if""" I do my part...

1/2 to 1" MOA off bench,,, 2 to 3" MOA free hand... Ha...

A tree,,, sticks or bypod helps bring those groups in pattern...

And yes,,, all of the 65 cartridges shoot ok,,, even my 6.5 A-square,,, my 308 & 30/06 along with lots of other calibers and cartrages do to...

Like the old guy said,,, Pat our selves on the back for good shot placement,,, and a poor shot is just that...

Good call on a 65 for critter as it will fill your needs,,, I'll miss my Ought-6 this year,,, but I'm sure my new 65 will live up to good times as they come.

Browning X-Bolt Pro - a bit over $1,500. but not by too much.

I just ordered a 6.5 PRC X-Bolt Pro. Selling my 6.5 CM X-Bolt Pro to "upgrade" my cartridge. Great rifles with a lot of nice extras and $1,000. less than the equivalent SAKO Carbonlite.
