Berger bullets in a Weatherby

I.ve tried the 115 Berger in my 257 WM, the 140 VLD in my 270 WM, the 168 VLD in my 7mm WM and the 210 VLD in my 30/378 WM. The only one that got me somewhat descent accuracy was the 210 in my 30/378, about 1.25 moa. The rest were just not good. I must say that I didn't do extensive load dev, but shot at least 50 of each with different loads to no avail. I must also note that all these rifles are sub MOA with other bullets and loads. In my 7mm WM I feel the 1/10 twist may be the limiting factor with the 168 VLD.

La, 115 VLD in my .257's 1/2MOA at 200 yds consistently. 215 Hybrids in the 300Wby and 30/378 well under MOA out to 400 yds. Having not broken in the barrel on the .270Wby, it is showing great promise at 200 yds with the 150 VLD using Retumbo. The .270Wby has been a long road, but it's coming along. The 210 VLD shot great in the 30/378, but with US869 which I found too unstable in the Az temp variations. Was given the 215's and haven't touched the 210's since. I only use these rifles for hunting and have never had a shot over 500 in my life. In three weeks I'll go after Javelina with the .257. All loads fit the magazine and most are near book COAL. The freebore has it's purpose and that's velocity. No two rifles will shoot a specific load the same, just physics. Good luck

The 300's work great in my 338 lapua accumark. Make sure you do the seating depth test as recommended by Berger. The test is described very well in the Berger reloading manual. Please call I can help. 541-270-2202.

Thanks Corey, I might do that. I am just kicking it around right now. I am happy with the performance of the 225 TTSX in my .340 Wby, but I always have to tinker with something. I keep reading that the Bergers have to be seated close to the lands for best accuracy, but was wondering how that can be done with the free-bore in the Weatherbys, and still able to put the cartridges in the magazine.

Thats old news from long ago. In Bergers own seating depth load work up suggestion they say to seat coming off the lands at 30, 60, 90 and so on. The pic below was my first bull elk taken many years ago. The rifle is a 30-378 Weatherby Accumark and was loaded with 210 Berger Hunting VLD's. Since I have seen many rifles shoot Bergers well with the bullet over .100 off the lands.
