OK, I made it back to the range today and have some results. However, I did get to thinking last night that I don't want to see what happens to a bad group because by its very nature it is not under control. I decided I wanted to see what happens to a good group so... I had a group with some 150 Berger HVLDs that ran 1.281 inches from 200 yards the other day. I loaded up some more of those and let them fly and.... wait for it... the group improved to exactly 1.250 inches. It was about what you might expect. I was kind of impressed that it actually happened. So, there you go undeniable proof that if you bed the recoil lug on your Savage it will without a doubt shoot better than it did before - unless it doesn't. In which case it might have been something else that caused all this. All kidding aside and even though it is only a sample of 1, I am kind of glad that it got better. I can even live with the 0.6 MOA too though I'm not happy with the ES which was 20 fps the first try and 37 fps the second try today. I think I'm going to switch powders (have been using Magpro) and try again. I'm thinking maybe some H4831SC is in order. If I can get it to shoot say 1.5" or better from 200 yards but with a single digit ES, I'll take it and go hunting. Well actually I'll see what it does at 600 yards and assuming goodness, then I'll go hunting.
