G'day all,
Still have no 300RUM dies, so could only find 1 box of factory ammo.
It is Barnes 165g TTSX, that's all the info I have.
I have never liked Barnes bullets, they just have never shot any good for me.
Now, I'm not expecting miracles with this box of ammo, but as I have already sighted in with it, took only 3 rounds, I want to shoot a deer with it this week.
What sort of performance can I expect from a 165g bullet at RUM velocities in a deer?
Is it going to shread the deer to bits?
I am dubious to say the least that this will be a good idea….beggars can't be choosers I guess.

Cheers.

You will be pleasantly surprised. It's an all copper bullet that will stay together. Whether you drive it at higher velocity or a normal velocity it is going to expand and punch through both sides the same way. Unlike many lead based bullets it will not explode or shed mass if you hit bone. In my experience you actually retain more meat shooting Barnes than you do a lead based projectile.

Thanks EricRF, my fears have been dispelled. I have never used light bullets in magnums before for deer.

Cheers.
