Badlands Precision Bullets thread - From BC to terminal ballistics

Been thinking about that bullet off & on today. I don't think the tip of the bullet could end up being so uniformly mushroomed if it hit the vertebrae. The copper tip is too thin to sustain an impact on bone without some distortion. That tip looks like all it hit was hide and water/muscle. Relatively soft matter/media

So I'm suspicious the bullet tumbled shortly after entry, which would indicate insufficient rpms.
Are there ANY marks on the sides or butt of the bullet, as if bone contact scarred the surface of bullet?

I just can't envision the copper tip looking so uniform after plowing into bone. Pull out a magnifying glass and look for surface abrasion?

This is every angle of the bullet, there is only a very small abrasion near the front just under the broken petal, but it is minor. There is however one petal broken off, if you look at the last photo of the front, there should be 5 petals, there are only 4. My guess is maybe that petal is what clipped the vertebrae? However there is logic in your theory, I wish I would have taken more time inspecting and photos of the wound, but I was over 2.5 miles back in fighting daylight, and the trail back went through a bears home, tons of bear scat and a relatively fresh elk carcass, and I didn't want to go through there at night.

That's a very sexy bullet. It looks like it will fly well and do some serious damage. I know nothing about reading shot bullets, but, is that bullet making contact and sealing around the entire interior circumference of the bore? From the unmarred looks of the surface of the bullet in some spots, it looks like the bullet is not firmly contacting across all of some of the grooves? Again, I know nothing about reading spent bullets, I am just asking.

Know what ya mean!! If you look, you can see where the carbon deposits on the bullet stop at the front of the boat tail on the rear pressure ring, no carbon/gas blow by. You can't really see it in the photos but there is just a small amount of contact around the pressure rings with the bore, I can hardly see it holding the bullet in my hand. Also I believe the bullet obturates slightly when the pressure hits the rear of the bullet forcing it forward, and seals the bore nicely.

migrating my Badlands bullets posts & pics here from the "338's are pointless" thread to keep relevant on game results in one area, also have the 30 cal 205 gr SBD ll & moose necropsy pics coming, haven't had the time to post results yet but they're coming ........

...........,,,,..............

My 2018 moose test was with my version of a 338 Norma Mag Improved, bullet expanded on impact and plowed through the bull, knocking him off his feet and dead on hitting moss, completely sausaged him too, saved me a ton of work, lol !

***** please excuse the face covering, this is prior to the covid bs and used as camo and bug protection when calling moose

copper petals were found inside the chest, just past the ribs, bullet expanded as it passed the hide, as bullet opened up inside the boiler room, it shut down operations with extreme violence, evidence of destruction was torn, shredded lungs & liver along with ripped out piping to heart and other machinery disconnected with extreme prejudice, the second moose was a "Texas Heart Shot" secondary follow up shot on a bull running away after a solid "behind the shoulder" hit with a 7mm Rem Mag by my dad, bullet hit the big hindquarter bone, opened up and shed the petals as it traveled in a straight line the entire length of the bull moose and broke through the heavy neck bones and I found it against the hide when skinning, bull was smashed face down hard, fastest & coolest kill shot I've ever seen,

here's the recovered Badlands 270 gr Super Bulldozer, punched completely through that mature bull moose lengthwise from stern to bow

That trip was kind of cool, first (two) moose for the Badlands 270 gr Super Bulldozer, brand new Lapua 300 Norma Mag brass (thanks to Ryan Pierce) and the then new IMR 8133 purple can powder

The cool part with the Super Bulldozers is you can load them deeper in the case to run in the 3.850" Accurate magazines, unlike the CEB Lazers where the seal tite band dictates your coal

Swamplord,
What barrel twist rate on your 338 Norma Mag Imp?

Looking forward to your moose necropsy pics from this year's bull taken with the 205gr SBDII.

I've played around with the 270 gr SBD bullet for a bit since 2017 and shot up a bunch of water jugs at 50 yards, all on video but my old laptop crashed and all video is stored on it, hoping to get my files extracted and post up some slo mo jug carnage ...

Guys that don't have Fascist Book to check out my P.R.O. page, heres a screenshot of some info as to why "50 YARDS"

Well, Badlands has their new bulldozer line on their site! There are some pretty impressive listings, on the heavier for caliber side....

.224 70 grain .241 G7
.243 100 grain .307 G7
.257 110 grain .292 G7
.264 135 grain .358 G7
.277 140 grain .333 G7
.284 160 grain .353 G7
.308 205 grain .402 G7
.338 250 grain .410 G7
.338 275 grain .451 G7

There are some lighter ones on a few of them as well if you don't have the tighter twists, seems like they can accommodate most rifles.
