Are you kidding me?

I was just in my LGS today and they had a signup sheet for 1000 ct 22 lr bullets, they go to the highest bidder. It was at $185...

I have had some CCI Game point and Winchester Super X ammo on backorder with Midway since 12/30/13. This is 22mag ammo. It was already overdue for delivery when I ordered it, so I am guessing Midway has never got any in since that time. That seems to contradict the statements from the ammo makers that they are making more ammo than ever.. I don't buy it. Basically I have not been able to get 22mag ammo in store (in person or online) since Sandy Hook, so that is now more than a year.

Regular 22lr I have bartered and been able to get more than enough for my needs (and I don't shoot it a lot). We have state regulations on night hunting that limits us to rimfire only (no buck shot or larger), so a shotgun is basically useless for coyotes. I now have 2 different 22mag rifles and neither likes the 30gr CCI ammo I originally got, so I do not have anything effective for night hunting at the present time.

The 22mag issue is actually a lot worse than 22LR and has been for some time.

I have seen the .17 cal rimfire stuff pretty consistently through all of this crap, but the .17's have always been priced like centerfire ammo. Add to that the utter insanity of manufacturers introducing NEW .17 rimfire cartridges in the middle of all of this, and I am starting to conclude that the .22 rimfire shortage is an intentional effort of manufacturers to establish a centerfire price floor for rimfire ammo.

If that is the case, my response is to tell them all to go perform anatomically impossible acts on themselves because I WILL NOT pay centerfire prices for rimfire ammo. My .22's will become wall hangers. The .22's currently sitting on store shelves can STAY there. I will work around the SOB's with judicious hand loading.

well i agree with you lot , they can't be to snowed under if there still sending .22 ammo over here to aus .

the shops here are full of cci rem and fed stuff .

and the price's haven't moved much in the last 2 years.

i didn't mention Winchester because it's made here.

I'm by no means a paranoid, or one to buy into conspiracy theories but a chilling thought crossed my mind as I read through these posts. I asked myself the question, "Why is this happening?'. With the exception of WW2, there had never been an ammo shortage, and certainly we have always been able to get 22 ammo. The prices have been stable for my 63 years of life. I do know that I don't buy the BS reasons given for the shortages. We don't really know the reasons. What we do know for fact is that our Attorney General of the US is committed to making gun ownership an oddity of the past. We know for a fact that they cut back room deals with industries like the Pharmaceutical business to force Obama Care through. The government is the biggest customer of the ammo industry. The progressives have flatly stated that if they can't win by the will of the people they will win by controlling the supply and demand subversively through economices. They have stated flatly that they have to begin with the youth. By the way, every kids first gun is a 22. How many 13 year olds can buy a brick of 22's for $100. How many parents are buying their kid a video game instead of a their first rifle due to cost and ammo supply? We know for a fact that the primary tool of the progressives is to divide, and turn one group against another. Every one is pretty ****ed off at the dealers and the ammo industry. They also know that the gun owners of this country, while passionate about their guns, are generally not organized to fight as to leverage their mass of 60 million strong. Less than 5% are even members of the NRA or similar lobby group. Finallly, we know for an absolute fact that anyone who suggests what I have just stated above is denigrated and labeled an extreme conspiracy nut and minimized. After what I have observed over the last 5 years in this country, I think anything is possible. Maybe all of us gun owners are being a bunch of chumps and letting ourselves be manipulated.

yes it happened here and it looks like it's happening over there.
every one just gave up or stuck in there little groups you know pistol shooters
shotgun and rifle all divided .

I saw on the news the other day that the government was going to buy 700 milion more shells? Didnt say what kind but makes me wonder for sure?lightbulb

You think that's bad this is the norm here in Australia. The greedy importers/distributors shaft us every chance they get. We pay on average twice as much (100%) more than what you do for ammo and reloading components, reloading tools, shooting equipment etc and around 75% more for rifles. It really is a joke what we pay for stuff and if your licensed for a semi auto rifle you will pay around 5 times as much (500% more) than what you do in the USA?

Even Gun Powder like Hogdon Varget, 8208, Benchmark, 4350, LilGun etc that is made here in Australia we pay twice as much as you do. You pay around $20-$25 for a pound, well we pay around $50 for 1/2 kg (1.1Lbs). So next time you are paying more for something spare a thought for us down here. It's getting that bad that shooting is getting out of reach for the average guy with commitments like a family here in Australia.

****, Fullboar. That is depressing. I always thought my escape plan from the United Socialist States of America would be your neck of the woods. Now what am I to do. Suppose the Aussie beer is still cold.

No question that these prices are insane. But we need to understand that in our free enterprise system, prices are typically based on supply and demand. Until our shooting sports brothers stop buying all they can find at high prices the high prices will remain high. The same principal applies to everything, including our reloading supplies. Some folks, in panic, will never learn.

$20/Federal 525 bulk pack @ my local shop here in Manitoba Canada. They have cases and cases and cases of them laying around!!

Finally we aren't the ones getting raked over the coals!!

Hope it gets better for you guys south of the border ;)
