Are we now in yet another ammo-hoarding era?

With all the frenzied, COVID 19 panic gun and ammo buying are we going to see ONCE AGAIN the inability to buy even .22 LR ammo?
Not that I need ammo, but this panic buying does not bode well for the future of arms and ammo sales. Worse, because of all this ammo hoarding I am wary of new legislation that would restrict how much ammunition a person may be legally able to possess. As well I'm concerned about "armory" laws restricting the number of firearms a person can own.
Would you want to be restricted to buying 100 rounds of /22 LR or .22 mag ammo because the law says not more than100 rounds of any carrie may be owned at any one time? I can go through 100 rounds of .22 mag ammo in no time at the range. And that also goes for 5.7 x 28 ammo as well, despite the cost. It's just too much fun.

Sometimes historical events can have "unintended consequences" and I hope this COVID 19 "event" does not bite firearms owners in the butt.

As of yet people here do not care about 22lr. This isn't the normal panic buying we are used to, this is totally and completely oriented around the defense of life and property.

what is sold out and the order here
1. Ar15s
2. 223/9mm
3. Pump shotguns
4. Slugs/Buckshot

Academy sold out of ARs last weekend, I watched my BPS sell the last pump shotgun they had Thursday. It was a camod benelli 20 gauge, the customer said "do you have a pump shotgun?" The clerk said "I have a 20 gauge...""I'll take that one". The man beside me grimaced, that was what he wanted to buy. I told him academy down the street had 200$ maverick 88s but he bought a 800$ sx3 instead.

They are selling people turkey loads with their shotguns because they have no slugs and buckshot left. I tried to convince the guy to buy the cheaper 3.5" goose hypersonic BB instead but the BPS clerk convinced him #5 turkey is bigger.

Over 10k rounds of 22lr on the shelf untouched.

My friend owns three gun shops. He is down to the priciest ammo in 223, 9mm and cleaned out of buckshot. Lots of 22 still. 308 is going fast. His powder in the most popular sellers are gone, i.e., Varget, 8208, CFE. He sold every AR and a bunch of shotguns and pistols. These are shops in poor low population areas. I guess we will see. I've noticed a lot of posts where our fellow contributors can't go to the range. That must really be hard. Thankfully I'm on the farm. No visitors please!

There will always be individuals who have no moral qualms about outright hoarding ammunition, whether for later price-gouging of others, or because they feel they need a garage full to survive the Zombie Apocalypse. If there are no limits, and unfettered freedom to acquire as much ammunition as one can, then there WILL be, from time to time, shortages such as what we are seeing now.

I don't think it is reasonable to decry BOTH the hoarding and the effort to frustrate it, unless you also offer a better idea. For the record, I would oppose a limitation of 100 rounds. But I am less cold to designating a much higher number, such as 1,000 or 5,000, as presumptively making a person, trust, or business entity, a dealer.

I'm actually sitting pretty for both 22lr and .223. What I don't have I can hand load. The last run we had on ammo was due to Sandy Hook. This one is due to a pandemic. There is a distinction to be drawn but I'm not quite sure what it is and I'm interested to hear what you all think.

Anyway, I think 22lr is a pretty good thing to have around. The lethality of the round In the right hands deserves more respect IMHO but how much do you actually need in a crisis? My goodness, a Federal 550 Valuepack should get you through multiple apocalyptic events, should it not? I think it's the extreme mentality that's been permeating our culture for the past 15 years that has caused a lot of people to go way overboard on what they actually need. Admittedly, I'm guilty as charged. I went kinda nuts after Sandy Hook myself. Hind sight is 20/20.

As the pandemic worsens in numbers affected and duration people fear those with no money, food, shelter, etc. will be driven to home invasions and carjackings. I now carry every time I leave my house.

Today my wife and I cruised The Strip. It was literally totally deserted except for police SUVs every block or two parked on casino entrances. NOT a good sign for the future of our "bedroom" neighborhoods - or any 'hood.

I'm with you on this. It isn't politically charged, it's a planet changer out of our control. I feel for the people who are less rural than me. I worry for my family and friends, particularly the older ones. I never thought '08 would happen, never saw it coming quite like that. We are good and lots of natural resources but we already altered our summer plans. We weren't thinking of a garden this year but it's back on. The best of the cull deer will go into the freezer and to family instead of the usual alternatives. We usually keep a few late fall fatties but I expect we'll keep a lot more and I'll be fishing a lot harder, longer and less for leisure. I hope you all stay well and the comms stay up so we can all communicate. This is an awesome format with great people.

I was able to order .22 mag and.22 LR today.
Guess only real preppers and firearms enthusiasts know how valuable .22 ammo can be.

I tell you brothers, THIS economic crisis will be worse than the Great Recession by quite a bit. As a history teacher I can tell you that it will very likely become a worldwide Great Depression.

"Save yer Confederate money boys, the South shall rise again!" ;o) - or save yer "buttcoin"...
John, I texted my neighbor about TP being "buttcoin" and he was literally ROTF, LMAO.

As luck would have it early this month I bought a stainless Tarus Trekker .44 mag from my friend and a Ruger Single Six with .22 LR and .22 WMR online, not knowing this would be a worldwide pandemic. Then was a "Chinese problem", not ours. The Tarus is for backpacking & hunting griz territory. Of course I carry bear spray too.

I been negotiating for a marlin .44 lever gun to go with my pistol. If I manage to get it it's going to end up a synthetic stocked, 16" with peep sites. Short enough to carry but useful for everything with a few lightweight 44 special loads.
