I just worked up a load for my new rem 300wsm. Read a little about the rl-17 and so I tried it out. Shooting hornady sst 165gr with cci mag primers I started at 65 grains of powder ans the last load was 68. All loads were under 2 inches but when I shot the max load at 68gr it was about .75 group. Keep in mind this was my first load I had worked up and there is a little room to get better.
Also this is a strictly hunting gun and mostly factory parts.
im new to reloading but needless to say I was pleased with what I seen so far

Also forgot to mention, max load is states at 68 grains but my primers showed no sign of cratering at all. I don't know what speeds im getting yet, and don't know how far over max ill push it but seems there would be room to go higher if desired

I'm using rl17 in my 270 with a 130 nosbt and it is pretty good there. Alliant doesn't leave much wiggle room charge wise, I'd not stray from published max. to much at all. For instance, their top load for rl15 in my 35whelen with a 220 is already 2 grains greater than in the bullet manuals.

I noticed that. On hornady manual it says max load would be 66a gr of powder. Alliant states max load is 68.. I see no need to push it any further now that its shooting well. I've seen chrono speeds with this powder to be pretty impressive so im excited to see what this load will chrono.

How does it shoot out of your .270? I thought this was more of a short mag specific load?
Any thoughts on how this powder would do in a .223? I would guess it would be way too hot but it would be nice to use the same powder on all my guns

Sub moa in my tikka
my brother has used it in 300 win long's too. It is basically double base 4350.
too slow for the 223, but would work in a 22-250 I suppose.

Wouldn't be top choice I would imagine, but it would be nice to only have 1 jug of powder next to the hopper lol.
Hopefully I can get this load threw the a chrono soon. I've seen alot of similar bullets with only 64-66gr of the rl-17 pushing the 3100-3200 fps

6.5 rem mag - 3200 fps with 130 gr Scirrocco II
280AI - 3050 fps with 160 gr Accubond
30-06 - 2725 fps with 200 gr Accubond
375 Ruger - 2850 fps with 270 gr TSX & 3000 fps with 260 gr Accubond

RL17 is now my favorite

I just recently picked up a 25-06 MKII VT. Before buying the 25-06,I had read about the velocity increase, and the lower pressures etc. Well, long story short, I bought some, tried it, and so far I like the accuracy, and the clean burning. Case necks are clean, and little to no fouling in barrel. I started 1.2 grains, lower than published max , which was 53, with a 100 grain bullet. I did not chrono any of the loads, as I was actually fire forming my brass, but that being said, accuracy was very good.
I am told that it is supposed to be very good in 308, 22-250, and 300 win mag as well. And according to the write ups, it supposed to be un effected by temps. Burn rate somewhere in the 4350-4831 area, with less pressure, and more velocity. It's got my attention, but time and the chrono will tell the real story.

i am using rl17 in my 220 swift...it gave me an increase of about 250 fps but my groups opened up by a 1/2inch... not a problem tho because it is my 'yote gun

Wow nice speeds! Even tho they are all larger caliber its still a nice selection of bullet sizes that it seems to be kicking out. How are they all shooting?

That's about where im at. Respectable accuracy, low pressure at max load, and seems to be clearer than the factory rounds I used to condition the barrel with. Im new to reloading bit I was please that the most un accurate load I worked up was still under 2 inches. Best being about 3/4.
Can't wait to get the sky shade onof the chrono fixed and see if im getting the fps im hoping for!

Woods, i would love to know your load for the 280AI, I have a custom 280AI that will be finished this month and have never loaded for this caliber.

DO NOT USE THESE LOADS WITHOUT STARTING MUCH LOWER AND WORKING UP LIKE I DID

I settled on the 56 gr load but have not done any seating depth tests, shooting for groups or have any pics of the Audette. I do remember that accuracy was on a par with RL22 and RL25 I had been using so I loaded up for hunting season last year and haven't gotten back to it.
