ok anybody shooting the 280 Sherman what bullets, powder, primers, cases and what they were before forming, and do you know your velocity? I'm thinking about this caliper for a custom gun that is currently a 270win.

I have Win standard long action that I am going back and forth on the Sherman or a 280ai. Which ever way I go I will be doing an 8" twist Proof Sendero light and loading our 143g Hammer Hunter. The 8" twist will allow me to run the 177g Hammer Hunter if I want but, the 143g will out perform to the distance that this rifle will be intended for. With the 143g Hammer Hunter it will be perfect for 700y on elk. The 280ai is running the 143g at 3200fps so I expect the Sherman to push it closer to 3300fps.

I want to keep this rifle simple but can't get past the cool factor of the Sherman.

Elkaholic did you get this new reamer you are talking about yet? If so any results yet?

I have a new reamer for the Sherman coming very soon. I think folks will really like the performance! I am willing to bet that it would run the 195 at 3000'.
That is right near 28N territory, though not sure if you are talking max or where a node would be. You can get that from a 270 win based case?

3100 is pushing it hard with a 180 in the one I had but 3000 is easy. That was with a 26" barrel. A 195 Berger will reach at or near 3000' max.
We have people running 140's in the 6.5 at 3300' and 250's in the 338 version over 2800' in the same case.

One of these days I will have either a 6.5-280AI or 6.5 Sherman.

That .270 Win would make an awesome donor for the .280 Sherman. Also, you use .270 Win brass to form for it. So you're set there, as well, if you have alot of new (or once-fired) .270 Win brass laying around.

I would go with a 26" 1:8 twist Proof Research CF barrel, and personally would go with their Sendero contour.

As for bullets, brass, powder, etc... .270 Win brass that's been fire-formed to .280 Sherman, Berger 175 Elite Hunters, IMR 7977 powder, and Federal 210M or CCI BR2 primers.
