Just was wondeering if anyone here is from the Queensland area (Mackay) area? There is a good chance I will be coming over there in the next couple of months to work for a couple of years and was wondering about the area and so fourth

About an hour and 20 mins north of Mackay is Airlie Beach the jumpoff point to the Whitsunday Island group.
This is a very scenic spot with excellent fishing offshore and among the coastal areas as well.
Can't comment on shooting but pobably some feral pigs as they have a wide distribution on the east coast of australia.
Duck hunting has been banned in Qld for a few years now - the best wing shooting is in the Northern Territory.
Quite hot in summer as is most of Qld and the further north you go the hotter it gets basically as you get nearer the equator.
The tropic of Capricorn is just south of Mackay so thing coastal climate similat to Tropic of Cancer latitude.
Certainly completely different to Colorado!!
Do you have something to do with mining? there are several large mines a few hours drive west of Mackay.
Hope that helps!

BINGO that is what I do underground longwall prod and also maint. We were told we would live at the mine site during the working shift, then in Mackay on our days off 7on7off. Not sure yet if I am going to go but have always wanted to see australia. Figure this would be my only chance and it would be on someone else's money. Was hoping there was some kind of hunting but the fishing is what I am wanting to do, never been off shore fishing. From the pics on the internet mackay seems like a really nice place to live.

There are a lot worse places than Mackay that is for sure.
With the minig boom over the last 3 years real estate has soared as well as in the mining towns themselves.
We are experiencing a slow down in demand from China quite quickly however.
I would get some guarantees as to work before emigrating over here.
Rio Tinto is to shed 14000 world wide for example.

Thats what I heard yesterday, I work for BHP/Billiton here, but would be working for a contractor there. Not sure if I am going to do it or not, it goes on a 1 year contract, the pay is great and the bonuses are really awesome.

OK, you know what thery say about the bird in the hand?
For my two bits you would be aware that contractors will be the first to feel the cuts unless extremely specialised services offered by them.
What part of Colorado are from?
I went there once over 20 years ago. Loved the place and drove to the top of Pikes Peak, 4 corners, Mesa Verde, Leadville,Cortez etc.
Guess you are seeing a white Xmas now especially with all the snow down south even in Texas etc?

Awwwwww Mesa Verde One of the most awesome places in the world. I live about 15 miles from its entrance, just south of Cortez about 4 miles I have been there many times and if I were to go tomorrow it would still amaze me. And the hunting here kicks A**. Wish I could just make a awesome living LOL. I dont plan on living anywhere else just thinking about going over there for a couple of years, then I wouldnt have to work in the mines anymore. Lake Powell is about 3 hrs away and is the best fishing around and the bikini's there arent bad either LOL
