Rolling stone!
i am just before pulling the trigger, pun intended, on a mid-length action build with 24" proof. I am leaning toward 338 Sherman MAX but, the larger case capacity of the wsm continues to intrigue. Plan is to shoot 250 Berger at something like 3.15 in COAL. Anybody have an opinion? Thanks in advance!

If you have the action for it you may as well go WSM. Nothing wrong with the 338 Sherman Max, but I'm all about case capacity!

I just weighed the case capacity of the 338 Max and it holds 78.6 grains. A 250 grain Berger seated at 3.090" to the lands has the bullet positioned correctly in the case neck. Given the difference in brass quality of the Max, a . 321" neck as opposed to a .254" in the wsm, and the overall better case design of the Max, (IMO)

I'll put my money on the max even if velocity was the only factor.
