Just getting my 13 year old son into hunting and all he can talk about is Hogs, Hogs, and more Hogs....lol Is there anyone within a few hours drive that offers a place to come stay in a cabin or such and shoot a hog or two at an affordable price......especially for a family that would like to do it fairly often? Id be fine with a road trip to Mississippi or Louisiana or even Texas maybe. PM me if you know of anything.........Thanks

I've been on hog hunts in NC, SC, Geo and TX. None are particularly "affordable". You also need to watch out for "put & take" operations that are sold as "free range" hunts. I've been on a few of them and it's really annoying to get taken that way. MANY outfitters will just lie about everything to get you there. It's sad, but it's true.
However, for a first-time hunt for a 13 yo, it would be good to arrange a hunt where there is a strong likelihood of a shot opportunity. Large areas that are fenced would still have a "sense of the hunt" for an aspiring young hunter. There's something different for everyone.
I live in Alabama and I'd be wary about paying for a hunt until you see first hand, on the property what they are doing. Night hunts are the best way to go. But as said before, none are cheap. People complain about the pig problems until you want to hunt them. Then dollar sign pop in their minds. Retired game warden friend gets calls several times a month to come shoot pigs caught in the drop traps being used on farms in south Alabama. He shares the meat with many needy people he knows. 60 to 80 pound hogs are the best.

They don’t want you to hunt their property without pay, but then the farmer/rancher wants federal assistance because of crop damage. Doesn’t seem fair.
Affordable is a relative term. What is affordable, $150, $250, $300, $500 a day per hunter? Lodging and meals add to the price. Hunting at night using their gear is even more expensive. Another thing to consider is that most really good outfitters will need to be booked way in advance during the cooler months. I go to a place in GA and we did not get 2024 scheduled in time. They have people who booked the same week every year til they close the doors. In the summer, you probably won't have a hard time finding someone with availability but you will have to hunt in the summer heat, you will need night vision, and shot pigs go bad really fast if you don't get them gutted and on ice in the hot weather. I doubt many outfitters keep the hogs in the summer.

Thanks for all the info guys. Yes affordable is a relative term for sure. I will find somewhere once I go to looking harder this next year. Worse case Ill swap out some land clearing or skid steer work for hunting rights for hogs or something. Lots of ways to skin a cat....lol

In South Dakota every resident will get a deer tag every year but not always in your home county. So we would call the game wardens in that county and see if he could point us to the farmers with a deer problem, Macon county in Alabama has the worst hog problem in the state, might try to call a Macon county game warden?

I hunt a few different outfitters for hogs here in Alabama. This time of the year most action is going to be at night. Generally expect to pay around $250 to $300 per night per hunter regardless of set up. My experience has been there are two general models: classic big lodge with lots of food and amenities type where you might shoot 1 pig over 2 nights OR basic access with opportunities for a bunch of shooting (maybe with lodging but no meals). My impression has been the big lodge establishments get a lot of people coming in from out of state year after year and need to be careful about shooting out their property. The small operators are mostly farmer/rancher co-ops with a pig problem that are trying to monetize their nuisance animals. They have multiple landowners involved and seem quite happy with the idea of killing them off. I will tell you that hog trappers can completely change hunting areas in a short time. A neighboring property getting a trapper out can remove a herd overnight, leaving your formerly overrun hunting area devoid of the dumb animals.
Drop traps catch them by the dozen. They are shot with 22lr and hauled off to the processor.
