Hello guys, I was considering building a longer ranged rifle in either a 338 RUM improved or a 338 Edge, would a donor action in 7 mm mag be long enough? The action is a Rem 700, what would i have to do other than maybe opening up the bolt face? Does Rem. build a longer action for these bigger cartridges?

Remington makes 2 actions. A long and a short. The action you have is long and will work just find for the build you are thinking of. Get that trued by a good smith and your good to go. I like the addition of the sako extractor but it is not critcal.

I am building a 338 RUM based off of a donor Rem 700 Long Action that was a 7mm mag before. I am getting a 4" wyatt extended mag box for room for the longer bullets/cartridge. Your long action should work fine.
