After about 7 years and many dollars spent I have finally got an accurate long range
rifle.

After sinking many hours and dollars into my Ruger hawkeye 300 win mag, I finally just bought an accurized Remington 700 from hillcountryrifles about 9 months ago. It is a 300 win mag also . I am super happy with it. It obviously shoots way better than my ability.

I went to the range yesterday and shot both rifles at 200 yards . the remington shot several , honest 1/2 minute of angle , groups.

The Ruger still has some problems as you can see.

the Remington is a ( " harvester " model from hill country rifles ) 700 with talley rings and a 4.5 x 14 Zeiss conquest with the rapid z reticle.

The Ruger is a model 77 hawkeye that has been glass bedded, free floated, chamber tightened, and trigger adjusted to 2.5 lbs. stock ruger rings, with a nikon prostaff 3 x 9 scope.

I have been reading this forum a lot, and watching tbosaurusrex videos on you tube and have learned a lot. I know most of you can probably shoot way better than this , but for me, I was very happy to finally shoot this well.

I will keep practicing and probably keep working with my ruger until I get it to shoot at least a little better.

Hope you like the pics

Congratulations, but that prostaff scope isn't helping that ruger out at all. At 200yds, I'm sure the parallax error is good for close to 1/2moa.

Yeah you are definitely right about the prostaff. What I really want is a nightforce for my Remington, then put the zeiss on the ruger.

I have an older version of the same Zeiss on a 25-06. It is very good for quicker 300-450 yards shots on the 25-06. Like it a lot. But with the range you could get out of the 300 mag, I agree about the Nightforce. You could also look at Vortex as well.

Nice looking rifle.

Thanks. Yeah the 300 can Definitely shoot farther than I can, at least right now.

I really got fortunate on the rifle from hill country. It is the low end harvester . They put this one on their website as shooting 1/10 inch groups. That is better than most of their high end rifles, so I called them first thing the next morning and bought it. And it does it with factory nosler accubond.

The ruger probably has a new barrel in its future when I can afford it.
