Absolute Hammer load data

Temp stability is a pretty big concern, this years Indian summer lasted till just last week here in North Central Wyoming.
There were quit a few VERY warm days this year. I think winter may have finally showed it ugly head this weekend though.

I'm sorry sir. I'm having some headspace issues.

Charge Velocity (Labradar)
77.5 3,363
78.0 3,372
78.5 3,402
79.0 3,443
79.5 3,459

Accuracy was sub 1" @ 100 yards for all charge weights and ES was sub 20. I got 0 ES for 79.0 grain charge which is a first for me. That charge also produced the best group at .41". No signs of pressure. Overall, speeds were approximately 150 faster than QL estimate for 150 grain Cutting Edge Raptor. Plan on testing 80.0 and 80.5 if I can pick up some more StaBALL 6.5 locally.

Been working on a 3 Absolute Hammer bullets.
140 gr 7mm/.284, 123 gr. 6.5mm/.264, & 90 gr. .257.

1) .280AI 24" (1-9.5). Proven load: 140 gr. TTSX w/ 61 gr. RL22 @ 3137 FPS, (Fed 215M). As a starting point I used the exact same load behind the 140 AH. Average: 3094 FPS, good accuracy & no pressure signs. Figured RL22 was to slow, but a good place to get a feel for how they act.
Next: Hybrid 100 V
58 gr. 3129 FPS
59 gr. 3170 FPS
60 gr. 3216 FPS
61 gr. 3309 FPS
62 gr. 3317 FPS
Good accuracy with all, and no pressure indications. I'll save a few and stick with the 62 gr. load for this hunting season.

26 Nosler 26" (1-8) Proven load: 124 gr. Hammer Hunter, 89 gr. US869 @ 3457 FPS. (Fed 215M)
Test: RL33 with 123 gr. Absolute Hammer
78 gr. 3246 FPS
79 gr. 3284 FPS
80 gr. 3353 FPS
Slight ejector mark @ 80 gr. All showed good accuracy. Stopped, and will stick with Hammer Hunter load for upcoming season.

.25-06 24" (1-10) Proven load: 103 gr. Hammer Hunter w/59 gr. IMR7977. @ 3255 FPS (Fed 210)
Test: 90 gr. Absolute Hammer w/IMR 4350
52 gr. 3110 FPS
53 gr. 3229 FPS (Wow! Big jump for +1 grain.)
54 gr. 3245 FPS (slight ejector mark)
Good accuracy with all weights.

Test: 90 gr. Absolute Hammer w/Hybrid 100 V
51 gr. 3127 FPS
52 gr. 3336 FPS
53 gr. 3337 FPS
54 gr. 3349 FPS (very slight ejector mark)
55 gr. 3422 FPS ( heavy ejector mark)
Backed off to 53 gr. load and will use this for upcoming season, as it's under 1/2" moa, and proven itself to 600 yards.

Here's what I came up with on the 25-06 AI, I was hoping for a little more speed but I have a 23.5" tube and it hindered my quest,
Rem 700 action
Brux 10 twist 4 groove #9 contour
McRee G5
90g Absolute Hammer
RL15@ 57 grains
CCI 200 Primer
.0045 neck tension
Seated to the last Bearing Surface Groove
Lee FCD@ 1/8 of a turn from bullet contact
3728 fps
SD 7.6
ES 17
Verified@ 500 yards and yes it hit the steel freaking hard
I got into the 3800's but it was hard on primer pockets and I do believe that a 26" tube would have gotten me into the 3800's safely

Anyone try the 178ah with a 30-06 yet?

I did, I think lighter weight bullets are where its at for the-06 but im gonna see what the178s will do.

I tried 3 different powders in a 21" barrel today

RE16-- 56.0gr ( book shows a 180 will go 2824fps with this combo)--- and darn it all, I had my LR set on pistol so it didn't record the speed :-( -- plenty of room in the case for more powder

RE23-- 61.0gr shows 2800 for a 180 lead core, I got 2848 , I can put some more in the case but its getting full

RE26- 64.0gr shows 2960 with a 180 lead core, but I only got 2814 and had to use a drop tube, this is a compressed load --- this powder is too slow for this mono bullet.

This shows me that RL 16 is probably a good speed powder to try out--- ill experiment more later.

Might be able to get 2900 from RL23, but RL16 looks more promising

For reference, I get 2879 fps from RE16 with the 166 HH from this rifle, so I'm getting about the same speeds from the 178ah but am just starting load work up , if I can hit 2900 or more with the 178ah ot should Trump the 166 stud hunter bullets

Thanks for sharing cohunt. Got any varget? I would think it would perform well with the 06 and 178AH.

Plenty of it, but its never been a go,to for the -06

Max load of varget with 180 lead core bullets only shows 2670fps-- I think it would be difficult to get enough in a case to get it up to 2900fps
