7mm Weatherby magnum

My 7 Weatherby ultralight shoots better than I can. But nothing heavier than 140's....tight 200 yard groups with 140 AB's, never could get the 160's to do anything.

And definitely no more than 3 shots at a time. Has to sit for at least 15 minutes before I shoot again.

Agree 100% with Khensley, I let mine sit with the bolt out on the bench until it cools down. My 7 has (what seems like ) a fairly thin barrel. After 4-6 shots it is pretty warm.

Last month I was really trying to get those 162 Hornady SST's to shoot, but couldn't get a group no matter what I tried. I guess I will be sticking with the 154 Hornady Interbond from now on.

I have had this exact rifle for over 20 years now and have handloaded extensively for it. I have several loads which I have easily gotten MOA or a bit less with. My best bullets have been 150 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip, 162 gr Hornady SST, 160 gr Nosler Accubond. Best powders have been IMR 4350, RL 22, and VV N-160. After about 1000 rounds I noticed my groups had opened up and I could no longer get MOA, so I sent the barreled action back to Weatherby last year and had them retro fit it as an Accumark. My current handloads in this rifle are about 3/4" for 3 shots.

Here is the data from my earlier MK V Deluxe, 24" barrel

150 gr Nosler BT , 68.0 grs IMR 4350, 3.340" oal, Rem 9 1/2M, 3100 fps

162 gr Hor SST, 72.0 gr RL-22, 3.400" OAL, Rem 9 1/2M, 3026 fps

Current data for Accumark, 26" barrel

160 gr Nosler AB, 71.0 GR RL-22, 3.335" OAL, Rem 9 1/2M, 3100 fps

160 gr Nosler AB, 67.0 gr VV N 160, 3.335" OAL, Rem 9 1/2M, 3100 fps

Please note these loads are maximum loads and should be worked up to with caution.

Also, do you have a chrono? If not, I highly suggest that you get one and use it religiously when working up loads.

Good shootin

Here's another load combination that I'm very happy with:

Federal 215 Mag Primer

78.0 Grains of Retumbo (Compressed Load)

160 Grain Nosler Partition Spitzer

3200- 3219 Feet per second

B.C 0.475

Sub MOA (.55") seated to 3.365"

This projectile has incredible penetration abilities along with a built in fail safe, can't wait to try it out!:D

my experience with long throated rifles like the mk v's and early ruger 77s has been that flat base bullets shot the best groups. the mk v rifles i've worked up loads for were very accurate.
