7mm SAUM vs 300 WSM for Elk/western hunting?

I would go 300wsm and just have one of many other smiths chamber it/ a pre fit from someone else with a proof barrel

this way you get the length you want and the cartridge you want. Or just get a 7 saum, which will help work but it seems you want the 300.

Both calibers are great but another +1 for the 300wsm in terms of available components and greater range of useable bullet weights.

I've had to help recover more elk from guys with 300's and regularly a couple guys who shoot 340 WBYs, I've put down more of their elk with a 6.5 than I care to but it's all in bullet selection and shot placement!!
Hello bigngreen, what has been your go to powder/primer for 300wsm/215? I will have a 24" barrel throated for 215 in a long action.

Why 7 saum in 22" and 300 wsm 24"?
My opinion is that larger caliber lose smaller amount of speed because volumen off barrel is bigger.
