7MM Rem Mag, H4350, and 154gr SST's starting point?

I am looking for a good starting point for a 7mag using H4350 and 154gr hornady SST. I have loaded up 5 so far with 58gr of H4350 and CCI mag primers, but have not shot it yet. am i on the right track on this one or should I pull them and start over. I would appreciate all of your thoughts in this matter. gun)

H-4350 will work, but not as good as other powders. 58 gns of H-4350 has a case filing ratio of 87-88%. A slower powder would be better. Quickload is showing about 50,000 psi. RL-22 worked well in a friends 7mm Rem Mag.

Thanks for the reply, I'm still kinda new to the reloading thing so please bear with me. At 87-88% fill with 58gr of H4350 I have some room to go up a little bit for more speed possibly correct? I do have some RL19 as well, what are your thoughts on that?

A general but not hard fast rule is to have case capacity at 95-100%. This typically gives best accuracy. A slower powder will probally improve velocity and accuracy.

Ok, I now have some results of my loads.

*NOTE* Speeds are based on factory ammo posted velocity on cheap federal box of 3110fps with 150gr hot cores hitting at the same height as hand loaded ammo on average @ 100yds.

58gr loads did pretty good with .960" 5 shot group at about 3000fps

59grn of h4350 yielded a 3 shot group of .4660" at again about 3000fps

60gr opened up enough that i did not even want to measure it...lol

so that having been said i believe the winner is the 59gr load of H4350 with the 154gr Hornady SST's should make a decent Elk round within reasonable distances, don't y'all think?

yes,but try 58.5 may tighten even more my old load now im shooting H-1000 68 grn. 150 sierra match king

Published load data isnt for moly bullets its a whole differant ball game.Which I'm sure you know just throwing that out there.

It means you should be using H1000.

I shoot a 280 Ackley Improved, it seems to like IMR 4350, H4831SC, H1000 and Retumbo. A friend uses Ramshot magnum powder.

Here is the pic of the best results i had. I estimate the speed to be closer to 2900 than 3000...just guessing as i did not have a chrony at the time. should have stopped at the 3rd shot. pretty sure the 4th one was because of me and not the load.
