You should consider following @primalrights on Instagram if you don't already. We put some great content up nearly every day. Most recently I've been working with a new 7mm Norma Mag Improved barrel. Finished up getting things dialed in today. I pulled some instagram video and stuck it on youtube so it could be embedded here for you guys... but go follow us if you're on Instagram!

I have the standard 300 Norma. I really wish I would have went with 7mm nmi. I will check out your video.

@orkan how'd you settle on retumbo? Did you try any other powders, try N570?
Yes, I tried a few different powders early on when I started with this cartridge. Retumbo was the most stable and has proven to work quite well. I have no doubt I could get a good load with something else too... but my Prometheus really likes the uniform kernel size of the Retumbo. ;)

Wider and more forgiving nodes. Lapua brass. Easier to hit the performance I'm after. etc.
With ADG and Gunwerks, there is top notch brass for the 28 nosler. Guys have achieved 3200 fps with the 195s and nosler brass in the 28.

Good luck!

I haven't seen that personally. 3200fps is a realistic load for the 7-300NMI. It is not for the 28 nosler. Possibly some fluke instances out there with guys with long, brand new, fast barrels? 3050fps with Peterson or ADG brass and N570 on a 26" barrel is the common answer. Nobody should buy a 28 nosler expecting 3200fps with a 195.

Thank you. I am fairly certain ADG makes gunwerks brass... ? I can get to 3200 quite easily with this. I simply choose to be where it shoots the best. With the 30" barrel I'm running here, I could probably do a fair bit higher than 3200. I know all about the 28 nosler. If I thought I could get this level of stable performance elsewhere without all this effort, I would likely be exploring it. I've experienced 28 nosler. It won't do what this can do. Also, I've not seen much in the way of tiny groups from the 28 noslers. They "can" do it, but they won't stay doing it for long.

Meanwhile, I'll probably get 20 firings on my brass. :) Enough to burn this barrel out with 50 pieces probably.

Having said that, I'm pretty close to sure we've got plenty of other threads to talk about 28 nosler. If you'd like to talk about 28 nosler, lets use those threads please, and leave mine for those that want to talk about 7 norma mag improved. I feel that is a pretty reasonable ask, and I hope you do as well.

Totally agree dude. I have a 28 as well. While they are sweet, they are not comparable to 7-300NMI whatsoever IMO. Thank you for sharing your info on the 7-300NMI. I think I may go that route in the future. And you're spot on about the throat erosion taking you out of your accuracy nodes in a hurry with the 28. Switching to the hammer bullets has helped a lot with staying in that accuracy node because they hardly mind a difference in jump. See no change in accuracy over a .03 seating depth difference. So seated at the front of that depth, it's good for about 300 rounds or so. Just something to consider for you as well 👍

That's good to know about the hammers. That's been the #1 problem with the big dragons... they just won't stay in a node! If hammer bullets fix that problem... that's a big deal. I recommend 28 nosler to tons of my customers... as lots of them don't have the skill or time to deal with the norma improved at the load bench. I'll mention the hammers to them in the future! Thanks for the tip!

You betcha! Also, they are long for weight and have fatter ogive/tip design. I say this because at this moment, a 195 berger will not even reach my lands without falling out of the case neck haha. 800 shots in.

But, the 169 hammer (which is almost the same legth as a 195) will still sit .150 into the case while touching the lands and it consistently shoots .4-.6 MOA still. Where the bergers will hardly shoot because of the throat erosion and long jump now.
