7mm-08 with 150 + bullets

I have an 18" 7mm-08 on the way with plans to stick a can on it and use it as a truck gun. I would rather stay above 150 gr bullets if possible as it will get used for elk and bears.

Anyways what is everyone having luck with?

Also the 162 grain works very well with the 7mm-08. I could not get the 150 Berger's to group worth a hoot but the 162's did a pretty decent job.

We are working with 150gr ELDX over 6.5 Staball in my son's. We also plan to try 140gr hammer hunters.

That's the same powder we use too.

This sounds like the perfect fit for some hammer bullets. Fairly easy way to gain back some of the velocity losses from the short barrel, and they are heck on game.

For a truck gun hunting/shooting 300yds and under, the Speer 160 GS and Nosler 160 Partition could be good options, both shoot very well from my 7-08. The older dual core GS bullets over H100v are one of the best combinations I've used. Currently running the 145gr LRX over StaBall 6.5.

Strongly agree! The heaviest bullet I loaded in my '08 was a 150 Partition that hit hard but was slow. 143 Hammer Hunter was much faster and hit just as hard. I would strongly consider sacrificing a little weight and picking up significantly more fps in your '08. Either way sounds like you have a nice rig!
