Wife is getting into hunting and was debating on which gun to buy her I have the option to buy a Remington 700 6.5 Creedmoor or a Remington model 7 in a 7-08 both are price the same I reload and have a lot of 7mm Bullets but I also have 160- 147gr eld match factory rounds for the 6.5
Which one would you all recommend and why

I've got my 3 daughters set up with Win Model 70 Featherweight / Compacts in 7-08. My girls are on the 'short' side, and the shorter stock on the Compact really makes these guns fit them well, especially with winter clothing on. The 7-08 is just a great deer cartridge, with minimal recoil for them and has worked well with 120 Nosler BTs. And the 6.5 would likely be just as good. From my experience, especially for a new hunter, get the gun that fits her best.

Go with the Creedmoor. Have had both. 6.5CM ammo is all over places like Cabelas etc. 7mm-08 not so much.

Both are great numbers, I got my wife a Savage Lady Hunter in 6.5. Very happy.

    It’s a tough choice
She wants a 243 cause she hears other huntresses use them but I would like her to shoot one of the above

There is a big selection of good 6.5 hunting bullets in the 120 ~ 130 Gr range. Not so much in the 284. Would help bring the recoil down and make the 6.5 Creed flatter shooting at shorter ranges.

Just get her what she wants. .243 is a great rifle. A little light for elk but deer it will kill just fine. If she gets the gun she wants she’ll be more likely to enjoy it.

I would go with the creed because it’s on a model 700 and I’m not a model 7 fan.

For hunting I prefer the 7mm-08. 15% greater frontal area means better efficiency in short barrels and reliable energy transfer/bullet expansion. The 6.5 has the edge for longer range target shooting.

The 243 also comes in the Winchester compact version but I have to agree the 7-08 would be a better choice . I started my daughter out with the 243 winny compact . Now she shoots the Winchester feather weight 270

Also Winchester is producing the Winchester Extreme in the 6.5 credmoor but it maybe a while before you can find one also it has a standard length of pull whereas the compact is setup for smaller frame shooters
