7mm-08 Nosler 140gr Ballistic Tip or Accubond

For Deer the 7mm-08 and soft bullets are like PB & J, match made in heaven.

At the cartridge's speeds you don't risk bullet blow up, unless you have some crazy load and are pushing them above 2,950 fps and taking shots under 100 yds.

Dang, what is you load? I push the 139gr SST and Ballistic Tips at 2,800 fps. Varget will give me a little more but not that much, and it didn't group well. Maybe RL17?

At those speeds then the Accubond will be best and with a shoulder shot.

ok, either will do but for the yardages discussed, I would consider 140 or even 150 Partition and save the BT's and AB's for longer range work. The partition shines bright at these ranges!!

At the original 2,840 fps you had posted I would use the Ballistic Tip and put it behind the shoulder. If you prefer shoulder shots and are at 2,950 fps then the Accubond.

I would use the 140 gr BT and never look back. I wouldn't be scared to use 120 gr BT and have put whitetails down with it.

Simple easy and cheaper would be to use the 150 grain Ballistic Tip and just be happy. My favorite 7mm deer bullet.

For what it's worth I used to run 140 ballistic tips out of my 7mm mag @ 3125 FPS to hunt axis deer for years until I went with my 300 RUM. I always aimed for the front shoulder and never had a problem. Of course a bonded bullet will to hold together better but my opinion is most folks over think it. Load some up and send it.

I have started shooting the 120 NBT in both my 7-08 & 280 with great success on Bama W/Ts at the distance you mentioned.
The 7-08 is running around 2,720 with 20" pipe.

I plan to use my 7mm-08 with either Nosler 140gr Ballistic Tips or Accubonds over 49gr of RL19--with muzzle velocity of average 2840fps. Range will be only 25 to 100 yards.
I'm a little concerned about Ballistic Tips fragmenting at the high velocity of close shots,what's your experience and thoughts?

Keep fps down so bullet will perform at that distanice. RL19 will do

140 gr. out of a 7-08, I wouldn't worry about the difference between those two bullets. Which ever one shoots the best out of your rifle, imo.

Look on Barnes web site, their load data has a Varget recipe for their 120gr.
