7 SAUM bullet for 1:8 22" proof barrel

With the 8 twist you can shoot pretty much whatever 7mm bullet you want, so try a few and find one that your rifle likes AND that you can shoot well from field positions.

I have pretty much the same exact setup except on an Anti action, 22-in with 1:8. Mine shoots the 175EH lights out, as soon as I get a little more time I'm going to try some 160gr Accubonds.

180 gr Berger's have been very good to me. 2900 fps. Couple of 1 shot kills 2 weeks ago in Africa.

Thank you! 700 yds is well past my abilities. My realistic shooting distance is within 500 yds.
What kind of gam will you be hunting on a yearly basis?

Real world there a ton load of good bullets for what you're looking to do. The good old 139 Horn SP, 150 NBT, 160 Sierra HPBT, 120 NBT or 120 TTSX.........the list just goes on and on.

Always heard speed is king with monos. I know hammer recommends the 143hh in the 7saum.
Have you run the numbers?
169 @ 2778 vs 143 @ 3080?
Where you hit 1800fps minimum?

For where I elk hunt, 6500' & 30°:
169 @ 810 yds and 1213ft/lbs
143 @ 830yds and 1034ft/lbs

I don't think 20 yards makes much of a difference. 143 retains minimum velocity just a hair further, but the 169 has more energy, and more mass/SD to shed and retain. 169 also has 4" less wind drift in a 10mph full value wind at 820 yds.

The 143 has WAY less drop at 820 however. 171" (20 MOA) vs 138" (16 MOA) drop.

I would say pretty much a toss up at 800 yards.

Thank you! I would mainly hunt big game in the lower 48 and maybe every other year a hunt in AK for moose, caribou or black bear.
The 169 hammer sounds intriguing, i may try it. Anyone has a recipe willing to share. I have a long action and 0.195 freebore

3,302 fps Bad Bad medicine pretty much for anything

I shoot bergers in all my other saums. But my 22" this is the recipe and 0.1 to 0.2 moa groups to 600 yards.
This is why I like the 143g for 700y and in.

Still waiting on my 7 SAUM build, but I have a pile of 168 VLD, 175 elite, 180 hybrid, and 180 ELDM that I plan to work through.

Just call hammer and talk to them, Steve will likely give you best powders to try, jump, starting load, and anything else you might need. Order a few boxes of bullets while you're on the phone too, you won't be unimpressed. If you have any other rifles that might need a new load ask him about that too.
