I'm working up a long range hunting load for a 26" shilen 9 twist chambered 7 rem mag. Anyone have a pet load they want to share? My personal bias is toward velocity over weight so I would love to find something in the 140-160 grain range (which will be ample for what I hunt - blacktail, pronghorn, occasional muley) but I'm not so stuck on that I wouldn't go heavier if I find something that shoots better.

Here's what I get so far; you're using a fast twist barrel to shoot medium weight bullets and favor speed.
What range to you plan to shoot at?
I have a 28" 9 twist Kreiger shooting 180 gr Berger hunting VLD's at 2980 fps. This combo has been the demise of numerous rock chucks from 900 to 1156 yards.
Your barrel will support some serious long range shooting, if you and the rest of the gun are up to it.
FWIW I am shooting 64.3 gr H4831SC. This load is over book, so sneak up on it if you decide to try it.

I would love to be confident at 600. Beyond that, I think rangefinding and wind will get me even if the gun and I do our part. Thanks for the ideas. Keep em coming.

From my experience the 162 A-max has served me well on deer out to 657yds. It will hold a 6 inch group out to 1100 yds. They maybe hard to come by now, but they are easy to load. I use H-1000.

71grn of H-1000, fed 215primer, 168 VLD-over 3050
64grn of IMR4350,cci 250 mag primer, 160 Sierra Gamekings -3050 also, both loads are very accurate in my rifles. Both are rem 700,26 in barrels. Hope this helps!

Remington Sendero [ 1st generation ] , original 26" barrel , averages .5 moa .

Work up to this slowly , watch for pressure .
