Hello everyone! I am stuck between a rock and a hard spot and wanted your guys opinion. Yes, I know that's going to leave a lot of different opinions but I have a antelope doe tag that I am going after tomorrow here on Montana's opener. I originally was going to use my 6.5-284 with 156 Bergers and my dad was going to use my 6mm Creed. Well now he is bringing his 300 WM. I have hunted and harvested several animals with the 6.5-284 over the past 7 years and the 6 creed is new to me this year. I have shot it out to 900 yards with the 108 eld-m. I really want to see terminal performance on how the little 6 creed does, but I know the 6.5-284 is a hammer. What should I do? I'm 60/40% on leaning toward the 6mm Creed. Thanks and good luck to fellow hunters getting out this weekend here in Montana.

6mm Creedmore is fine cartridge in my opinion much better than the 6.5 NEEDSOMUCHMORE...extremely accurate out to a 1000...the other you listed is extremely finicky to say the least..

I have been impressed with this little 6mm Creedmoore especially because it is in a cheap Ruger American and shoots half inch. My 6.5-284 has been extremely accurate for me. It is a custom build and shoots the 147 eld m in one hole groups as well as the 156 berger. I am just torn on what one to bring. The new 6mm or the tried and trued 6.5-284 that I have taken game out to 730 yards with. Decisions, decisions.

Choose the gun you are confident you can get it done with. If you are equally confident in both take the 6cm. Its the better sized cartridge for antelope, not that the 6.5 would be too bad. I got a forky horn with my 6 creedmoor and a 108 eldm and it worked like a charm. Hit in the neck and shattered all the vertebrae in the neck within 4 inches of poi.

Antelope doe are not hard to drop, use the 6mm keep it off bigger bones and have a fun hunt.I always carry a spare rifle if more than 3 hours from home, give the 6.5 a break but bring it along in case of any issues.Simple.
I think that is what I will do! Take the 6mm as main rifle and then have the 6.5-284 as a backup rife. I am about two hours from my house to where I am hunting.

Heck, flip a quarter. 😂 I've killed more animals with various 6mms than all of the other calibers in my stable combined. In fact, my last antelope kill was with a hot rod 6mm. Whack'em & Stack'em.

Either one will get the job done with very little fuss.

This will be the first animal I will harvest if all goes right with a 6mm sized bullet so I am hoping it will work but I have little doubts it wont work. Thanks for the input. What is your 6mm hot rod?

That was kind of my thought process! I want to give it a run and see what I think! I have never hunted with a 6mm of any size so I want to see the results. Other than coyotes and gophers with an old 243.

6mm-284 running the 112grn Match Burners @ ~3400fps. I had the 107 SMK trued in at 3550fps but was having trouble finding them & switched. Jury is still out on the 112.

My first centerfire was a straight up .243win & I hunted with that for quite a while. Rechambered it to .243AI until I shot the barrel out. It's now a 6mmAI & i've taken several mule deer with it.

So... 4? Different 6mm chamberings (i'm missing one somewhere) many, many years of hunting. Light recoil, fairly flat trajectory... what's not to like?

Yeah that is exactly my thought process! No recoil, decently flat trajectory and what I think will be a great antelope/doe deer gun. I have a 300 win mag that gets most love for mule deer bucks and elk. I just had a son so I had to get "him" a rifle for when he turns 10 (years down the road) haha but I told my wife I needed to make sure it worked properly before I would let him use it. So for the 6-284 I am assuming you just neck the 6.5-284 down to 6? That would be a sweet little round as well. I have been thoroughly impressed with the 6.5-284 shooting 147 eld m at 2950 fps.
