But if they don't expand they don't create much shock and even a heart lung shot they'll run a ways. I shot 69 SMKs for a year, very accurate in my loading but lost several dogs that would have been DRT with a thinner jacket ed bullet. I hunt for fur and the best combination I've found is a very high speed well constructed bullet that STAYS inside the animal.
I am using a monolithic bullet from Patriot Valley Arms, 77g Cayuga in my 22BRA. That bullet has been excellent on fur this year. Minimal expansion, minimal damage. Haven't lost a dog that was hit where it should be. I have had a few run a bit "60 yards" but those have been the exception. Great .bc for the longer shots as well. Here are some from December.
