I would hunt the grain field with the 7MM with the VX 6 as the lighted reticle and higher mag will be valuable at 500+ yds put the VX 5 on the creed for tight quarter closer range woods hunting.

Are your woods large acerage of mature hard wood, or a few (10-20) Acers of over grown fence scrub used as bedding areas?

The illuminated TMOA reticle is only available on the VX6HD which is what I wanted for long range.

Dilemma:

I have a VX6HD 3-18X44 coming with the illuminated TMOA reticle. I have a Remington Sendero FS 7mm STW and a Tikka T3x 6.5 Creedmoor. I hunt large ag fields and the woods so I can shoot anywhere from 10 yards to 500-600 yards and the quarry is whitetail only.

I am trying to decide on which rifle to put the scope. The Sendero is heavy but spooky accurate. It's great for the box blind but I'm iffy about hauling it around in the woods in the treestand. The Tikka T3x is light and shoulders great and the 6.5 Creedmoor recoil is light. Its a great handling gun.

Comfort wise I like the Tikka in 6.5 Creedmoor vs the 7mm STW but the STW has some impressive ballistics.

Between a 7mm STW and a 6.5 Creedmoor, which would you choose as a better choice for an all around deer rifle from woods to fields? BTW I also have a Tikka T3 .308 with a 22" barrel that is a sporter rifle.

Luepold quick switch base on each rifle and one set of rings.

Sure, the 6.5 Creed pushing 140's at 2700-2800 FPS is deadly inside 600 yards. It is farther as well but the STW pushing 180 at 3000 to 3100 FPS will be capable well past 1,000 yds.

Based on that info wich everone you shoot best, and whatever bullet you use that will expand at those distances and velocity. Pretty simple dont over think this is not a once in a lifetime hunt.

Field hunting? Easy choice...the STW for the wind. I have had both to use in such situations. I still have the STW.....

Disregard....your original post I thought was a Leupold bash. It's Long Range Hunting forum so it's pretty common.

o.k. ... I don't mind Leupy but they are usually a bit spendy for what you get... I've got a m8 4x eer on my Striker pistol and it's been good to me for better than 20 years... Most of my decent scopes are Elite but I have a couple of Nikon and Vortex that are decent too...

I am running a 6-24x Vortex PST on my 7stw and a 6-20x Weaver Grand Slam on my kid's 6.5 Creed if that helps any... I've got a 4-16X Vortex on my 7rum... They all work but you can't hit what you can't see so I like a lot of mag. on the big dogs so you can reach out and bite something. My deer last year was a 642 yard shot from sitting (no rest) with a 300win using a 6-24x Elite set at 16x...

600 yds? 6.5CM won't cut it past 200. Go with the STW.

Me, I like the lighter rifle that's easier to pack, lighter recoil and is just plain fun. 6.5 CM all day for deer out to 1000 yards...
