I have achieved reasonable results with 140 grn Sierra Gamekings but wanted to try the Hornady sst's. Does anybody have some good load data. I have some vit 160 powder at the moment but could buy different if required. The rifle is for stalking so whilst I like it to be accurate it doesn't have to perform to match standards. I have a 1 in 8 walther barrel if that helps.

1st I would use what worked for the SGK.
My powder for the 6.5-284 whether it was a hornady or sierra bullet has been H-4350.
H-4831SC would also be a good option.

140g SST works well on red stags

49g H4350 gives me 2900fps and 1/2" groups at 100

48.5g H4831sc similar.

You could substitute Vit 160 for 4831sc as it is "similar" in burn rate, but be careful, these are safe in my rifle - may be not in yours.

Thanks Ronin

Ran up a load today. shot half an inch at 100 , 2 in same hole. Pilot error for the third. The stags are what I will be using them on. Going for a trial run at goats this week so we'll see what the knockdown ability is.

Thanks for your help again. I used 47 and 47.5 grains of n160.

Regards

Robert
