6.5x284 compared to the 7mm rem mag

How dose the 6.5x284 compare to the 7mm mag I've got a 7 mag would I gain any thing or would I lose out by switching to the 6.5x284 I don't know much about the 6.5 x284 and I was hopping that some of you guys could help me I will mainly be hunting with this rifle at ranges from 100 to 600 yrds and anything from bobcat to elk

I have 2 7mm Rem Mags and one 6.5-284 Norma. I like both. Since you mention elk, stick with the 7. Both are barrel burners but the 6.5 is worse.

You will def loose going to the 6.5X284 140 Berger about 3000 fps vs
7mm rem mag at 3000fps 168 gr Berger
