6.5 PRC with 156gr EOL?

A buddy wants me to load some ammo for his new to him 6.5PRC. It had a 1:8 barrel on it though which looks a little suspect to stabilize the big 156. Thoughts, experience?

I was thinking 140 class might be a better option?

Run it thru the Berger stability calculator. Never had a problem with the 156's out of 8 twist barrels but we are also at 6k elevation. Even at sea level I think they are still fine just a very slight BC reduction.

What ckleeves said, I run the 140 vld out of a 1:8 and they shoot lights out. Running this load at 3050 fps.

I'm running them on a 8 twist 26" proof at 1000' with a velocity of 3050 and shooting one hole groups at 100

I run the 156 EOLs in an 8" twist (23.5") Proof barrel at 2,900 ft/sec. Accuracy at 400yds is very good. I shoot at sea level if that makes a tangible difference.

According to the Berger stability calculator, you are golden. 1.47 stability factor at 59f sea level conditions.

Agree with all of the above, no issues from sea level to 8000'. Awesome combination at 3k fps!

156 are my favorite in 6.5 PRC hunting rig. Accurate load In my rifle.

I shoot them at 500' no problem out to 1000 yd with a 3,050' MV

Im at 500 feet where I tested and shoot 156 with several 6.5 rigs ranging from 2850 to 3050 MV. verified out to 1760. You are good

Custom Rem 700 Long Action, .188 freebore, 28" 1:8 twist Benchmark. N565 gives 3K and some change. 1" at 300yds. 6300' ELEV. Have been down to my last 50 bullets for about 4 months so haven't shot it for a bit, didn't want to have NONE on the shelf. UPS delivering 500 today FINALLY

I run the 156's with my 6.5x284 at 2980FPS in two rifles with an 8 twist. At my lowest altitude if 300FT and 50F temperature, to 4500FT at 30F they appear to be stable with <.5MOA accuracy, with trajectories consistent with the Berger's published BC to 1000 yards. Using Berger's Twist rate calculator is a stability factor of 1.48 at the lowest elevation(300FT), and above 1.5 at my hunting elevations of +2400FT). Berger's claim of a minimum twist of 8 seems to be viable in my rifles.
