6.5 PRC Sherman Improved

Update. Loaded up the 144 Berger with h1000. Shooting tomorrow. Will update with groups and velocity tomorrow. Something to be aware of that I ran in to. My shell holder was out of spec or not up to spec for the prc as I was using one from years ago. Bought a new shell holder and cases are g2g! Chamber like butter! Shout out to @elkaholic for figuring that out.

Range day report. The fireforming load in borningly accuracy and shoots 4-5 inch groups at 800 3-4 at 600. That's more shooter than gun. Range conditions were brutal today. 12 mph head wind 33 degrees. Finished forming cases and started shooting groups. I never hit pressure my h1000 load I had was at 61.5 grains at 3045 fps. No where near pressure that I can find. Tumbling cases now will then anneal and get ready to load some more.

Sounds like a good start!

I'm also going to ditch the cci br2's and go to fed gmm 210's es and sd were higher than I'd would like. So we will start loading at 62 grains of h1000 and see where we pressure out. Should start to get really good case fill and slight compression coming up. One other thing I will add for others that I would not do again and that's but blem brass i purchased blem adg and I've thrown away some as they will not resize correctly. So buy quality firsts. At least that's what I would do if I could do it again.

Maybe the h1000 and br2 didn't like each other or the h1000 and bullet combo was a wash...................

@lancetkenyon has a great write up I will try to find the link. It wasn't so much about the gain for me as it was about not many other having one. I have soon to be 6 of riches wildcats and they are the easiest to load for. With the prc improved reamer I don't worry about clickers. The dies are amazing. Call me a fan boy if you like but I'm more than happy with the results I've gotten in the last. I look forward to seeing what this one will do. Here the link to Lance's results

Wow, the 6.5 PRC SI sounds very interesting. I just got a 6.5 PRC back in Dec 22 and I absolutely love it. I can't imagine making it any better than it is now but the SI is intriguing. I am still a big 25-06 fan on Whitetails where I live in NW Louisiana but I think I have found a new go to rifle with my 6.5 PRC—love it so far. Good luck on the SI and please share load results as you work them up. Thanks

Range update. Fps looks good accuracy is about as good as I can shoot on three hours of sleep. I confirmed what I thought rl23 and 560 are no joke in this case. H1000 was good but not great. I will attach pictures of the h1000 loads later. Not sure if fed gold medal matches made a difference but they seemed to shoot way better than the br2's again that's pure speculation on my part.

Here are the h1000 results. What i believe is h1000 is too slow for the 144 Berger. I could play with seating depth but I'm not going to. I'm going to pick a n560 or rl 23 load and load and verify out to 1600. If I have enough elevation in the turret.

Rl 23 on the top end heavy bolt lift gave me fps 3280,3273 and missed the third on on the radar. That what is what I called absolute max for rl 23. At 61.5 grains
