I have lots of Retumbo, H 1000, H 4831, H 4350, RL 33, RL 25, RL23,...... but no RL 26. Is it worth spending $500.00 on 10 LBS just to try? I'll be shooting 140 Berger Hybrids since I have lots

Thanks,
Tod.

I don’t think so, more then likely h-1000 (or one of your other powders) will work just fine. It might not give quite the velocity of RL26 but it’s more stable and I’ll take that over a few FPS. I load RL26 in the prc simply because I have lots of it and need the h-1000 for other rifles!

Well look at it like this. You can always sell what you don’t want. It will get you your highest velocities and low ES/SD. It is not temp stable. I have found that N560 will get you just about the same velocity, same ES/SD potential and it’s temp stable. If you can find that. RL26 is a favorite in a lot of rifles. I just bought 10 pounds myself. But I also have 15 pounds of n560. Both are real close in performance. I use them in 6.5 prc, 6.5 creed, 7 SAUM and 7mm Max. So rl 26 is a great powder. But your call.

H1000 great for the PRC. However, I would be happy running Retumbo, H1000, or RL23. H4831 and H4350 will be the slowest velocities.

If it was my choice, I would run RL23 or H1000.

Thanks guys. this is a factory Savage 110 Tacticool, so guilt edged accuracy won't be my ultimate goal. Also.......I got over my velocityites a long time ago.

I had super accurate results from H1000 and the Berger Hybrid in my 6.5 PRC. I wouldn't bother with RL26 under the current circumstances. Retumbo is a great powder but your velocity will suffer with the small case. Out of the powders you have H1000 should give the best velocity and a very good load density.

Your barrel will last longer running h1000 or retumbo. RL26 will give you increased velocity in situations where you run out of case capacity before you reach max pressure with retumbo or h1000.... It may also give you some more velocity over those two if you are running a shorter barrel... Like a 22" or shorter. In that situation H4831 may prove to be a better choice than RL26.

I havent tried the RL26 but I am loading 56 gr of h1000 in a 24" 1-8 proof barrel, 156 berger elite hunter bullets, .10 off riflings I have about 50 rds through barrel now and this is so far the best 5 shot group minus my pulling the one shot off sand bags. I havent ran it through my chrony yet but will in next week or so but I'm very happy with it. So I dont know if it would be worth it or not. I bought 3 lbs of 4831sc because I was told it would probably be the powder and I'm selling two now and not even going to try the one. LOL I still have Retumbo not opened yet either.

I run H-1000 in my PRC does well. However if you want to try some RL 26 I would trade pound/pound for H-1000😁

RL26 is great in the 6.5 PRC but no way I would spend $50/lb even in this climate if you have enough of the other powders you listed. H1000 will get within 100 fps of RL26 and be more consistent.

I have plenty rl26. But I live in North Dakota. By any chance do you live anywhere near?
