6.5 PRC "ideal" for antelope?

Is the 6.5 PRC (143 gr. ELD-X) an ideal antelope cartridge or is it over powered? To me it's like a longer range 6.5 Creedmoor.

I'm going to use a Browning X-Bolt and this cartridge if I get a Nevada antelope tag this year. It's my only long range rifle so not much choice. I could go to a lighter bullet IF I can find factory ammo in say 130 gr.

Seems pretty close to perfect to me. High BC bullets pushed to 3000fps makes a lot of sense for use on pronghorns.

What's over powered!-lol. A 300wm kills them just fine. Just stay off of the shoulders.

don't shoot them too close and stay in the ribs. if you are reaching out and touching them then its no problem.

In my opinion 6.5s shine on games up to 240 lbs, you can stretch them further, but there are better choices.

Any of the modern 6.5s with proper bullets will kill anything in the lower 48 deader than dead.

I killed my South Dakota pronghorn with the 6.5PRC and a 130 Berger VLDH this year. It is ideal. So is the 240, 257, and 270 Weatherby, the 6mm Rem and 243 Win, the 270 Win and 280 Rem, the 25-06 Rem and 264 Win Mag...

Thanks gents. Guess that is a good cartridge for antelope. And likely also the very similar 6.5/284.

I do have a 6.5 Creedmoor Ruger Precision Rifle for competition but I'm not lugging that boat anchor over the prairies.

Why off the shoulders?

I like to eat what I shoot. Behind the shoulder drops em fine and doesn't do much meat damage.
