The problem is that trauma does not kill (quickly nor humanely) on the shoulder. Penetration kills on the shoulder. Neck/head shots are not the best choice for general purpose hunting since they are not easy. After that trip I switched to barnes LRX and Nosler partitions and problem solved.

I hunt tons of auodad in west texas and love my 6.4-284 shooting 147's at 3000fps, knocks em over pretty good, shot this guy at 673 yds last month

6.5 PRC is enough gun. I dropped a good ram at 613 yards using 147 grain ELD-M Hornady bullet. Use it with confidence.

Ok. I don't see a problem personally. I see a dead critter, which is the goal.

You did not shoot it in the shoulder correct? So why reference it? You shot it in the neck and it expired.
