Anyone running a 6.5 prc 28" ?
I'm curious about what kind of velocities the Hornady 147 match ammo would see in a 28". Also how fast the 147 could be pushed by N570, retumbo, or rl26 in a 28".
Would 3200 fps be within reach before hitting max pressure?

getting 2970 with factory 147 match ammo. have no N570,Retumbo and only 1 pound RL26 left for another gun.
I can make 3100 with H1000 but it is tough on brass
McGowan 7.5 twist 28 inch
Gunwerks or Hornady brass have used both

Hornady says 2910 with a 24" bbl. Depending which expert you believe, +1" =s 30-50 fps.

I have a 338 RUM w/36" bbl. Berger quotes top as 2611 with a compressed (83) of Retumbo from a 26" bbl. I'm getting 3000 with 1 grain less. I don't know specs of their bbl, mine is a 3 groove Nitrided.

Kinda doubt you can get 400 fps from 4", "it depends".

did a little playing on quickload. using settings from my 2 year old lot of RL-26 in my 6.5 PRC setup you might end up between 3150-3170 and will be very close to max. Magpro is another powder to explore if you are looking for those speeds. Ramshot LRT isn't in quickload but might be another option. I have LRT on order for another gun but will test with 153s and 156s when it comes in

I'm thinking there is likelyhood of finding an accurate node somewhere between 3150-3180 or so. Next good node down I'm guessing would be around 3050. I've never been able to materialize on an accurate node in between those I mentioned. I'm sure there's people who have. I've been unable to do it among several tries in several different rifles.

With a 26" shilen in 6.5 prc I'm getting 2950 with 56.5 gn of h1000 nd could probably go up to 58gn safely but don't really see the need
