6.5 Load

Trying to find a load for the 6.5 cm. So far I have tried the IMR 4831 powder loaded with 41 grains. It shot pretty good in the gun but I recently read that this is a slower shooting powder. The gun(a browning hells canyon with 22in barrel). The velocity is 2620 so I really didn't want to go lower that. I have also tried the h4350 with 40.8 grains and had a decent group but wasn't as good as the IMR 4831. Any load suggestions? Shooting the 143 Eldx bullet. Thanks!
IMR4831 is a slower BURNING powder but that doesn't necessarily mean slower shooting, ie slower velocities. Because of its burn rate, I would expect 41gr IMR4831 to be a fairly low pressure load, and that is what your velocities reflect. I would keep increasing charge weight by .3-.4gr at a time, watching for excess pressure signs and accuracy along the way. With a 22 inch barrel, I would think you should be able to reach 2725 without too much problem.

Hodgon's data shows a max of 45gr IMR4831 behind the 143gr ELDX for a MV of 2760, so you should have a bit of performance still available.

FWIW…look on snipershide or rifleshooter they did extensive load
D-vel on the CM.

No pressure on this 143 ELDX

I get 2900 from 43.2gr of H4350 and a 140 VLD. It started at 2850 and has sped up...I recently backed off the load by .8 to .2 grains since I am getting such velocity, but none of those loads had the accuracy that 43.2 does.

I am using SRP Lapua brass and my rifle was built by MOA and has a 24" barrel...no signs of pressure.

Mind sharing your recipe? Recently started working on this combo right here. Thanks
Work up carefully, but I ended up at 40.1 grains of Varget with the 124 gr Hammer Hunter. Nosler brass, CCI BR-2 primer. This put me at 2935 fps out of my Tikka T3x and excellent accuracy.

I hope this helps in the quest for accuracy & velocity to make long range kills.

These are SAAMI data.

My thinking is that 120's are ideal for mono-core bullets & 130's for cup & core out of a 6.5 CM having 8 twist. The 6.5 CM has limited powder capacity and favors hi-density powders.
