Got three deer this season. Used my BCA 20 in. upper in 6.5 Grendel. This thing shoots under 1 moa.

The hornady black ammo loaded with the 123 eldm is quite deadly and a bit on the explosive side. Here is the only one I recovered and this looks like it's just the jacket. The core appears to have separated and it did exit the deer. I purposely shot it into the chest from the front hoping to recover the bullet.

it does punch a big hole, specially if you hit any bone, even ribs make it expand violently.

This is my new deer thumper! I don't have a chronograph so I don't know the exact velocity on these rounds but the box says 2590 fps. All three of these were at 160ish yards give or take a few yards. I could definitely see this as a 300 yard deer killer! It's a great round to start youngsters on hunting.

I shot a deer with the same upper you have. I had to send mine back and have the barrel replaced because the first one shot between 5 and 6 inch groups but after replacement and about 70 round down the tube I consistently get 3/4" five shots at 100 with my handloads. I shot the 120 Speer Gold Dot at 2550 fps with 28 grs IMR 8208, Hornady case, CCI 450 primer. Doe at 111 yards facing me shot in the center of chest DRT. AWESOME results, pulped chest and penetrated about 20 inches and exited out the belly about 6 inches before the crotch.
While going through the ordeal of shipping tag with the BCA I built another AR from the ground up using an 18" Oden Works barrel package. It flat out shoots. Hunted with it some but did not see any deer. It is my opinion that the 6.5 Grendel is THE AR-15 platforms best all around caliber.

I'm really liking the 120gr Speer as well.....Great all around bullet that holds up good on deer. Furthest shot on a deer so far was 200, same results as 100 yards. I'm running AA-2520 with the Speers.

Thanks for posting the results on the 123 ELD. I just bought a case and am hoping for better results than the SST. I've taken quite a few deer with my Grendel and I have also lost a few. I have shot 20 pigs this year with the 123 SST and 17 have gotten back up and run. I've shot them in the shoulder, behind the shoulder and in the face and just like the energizer bunny they just keep going. Hopefully I will have better results with the ELD's.

I put my 6.5 Grendel om the back burner, still couldn't get it to group just 1MOA...and that makes me sad. It was going to be my dog rifle?

Good shooting!

The 123gr bullets are deadly! My old Grendel massacred everything I shot with it. I found with more speed from a 6.5x47L it was a little more friendly. I took the gemsbok in my avatar with a 123 amax

Try red loctite on the barrel tenon and a wedge for the rear lower pin. These two things helped my rifle shoot.

Accu wedge, ✔. Replaced upper, ✔. These got me to 1.25avg with my reloads, boxed ammo still booboo. Bedding the barrel tenon was the next and probably last, before I sale it for parts?! It has excellent battle rifle accuracy
