What are your opinions of the round out to say, 5-600 yds on deer? If it makes any difference our bucks weigh about 200 or 220 and I'd be hunting some clear cuts and power lines. I would like to get a semi auto like a DPMS but I can't justify lugging 13-14 lbs through the woods. I like the reliability of BAR's but don't think it would be accurate enough alongside with me re barreling. I think I am really going to love this forum.

I don't have a semi-auto but do have a custom built Creedmoor. With 140 gr VLDs at 2800 fps, it still has 1966 fps & 1201 ft lbs of energy at 600 yds......plenty for deer and a VERY accurate round!

More than adequate for that range. Launch a 140 at 2800-2850 and its bad deer medicine. We have shot quite a few whitetail with the 140 A-max and it does a great job. I cant say much for semi-autos I've always been a bolt guy

I just got my barrel in last week..... just waiting on my head space guages.......

My wife got hooked on the 6.5 Creedmoor when I sent her to the Gunwerks Long Range School

I bought her a RPR in 6.5, after playing with it, I bought me a 6.5 CM.

I've been playing it planning on using it for Deer/Antelope this year. I believe it will be more then capable at distance.

Bullet selection helps. Berge says their VLD Hunting bullets are designed to work to 1800 FPS at the target

Nosler says their 140 accubond works to 1350 fps.

I haven't hunted much with Nosler bullets but from what Bergers I've used, my success matches Bergers 1800 fps recommendation.

That being the case Bergers should be good for 950 yards in my loading (2750 MV).

That's a bit farther then I plan on shooting, but if that's true, I have no doubt the 6.5 will work quite well at 600 yards.

I certainly know my bullet/gun combo is accurate enough.
