Looking to try out the 143gr ELD-X in my 6.5-284 anyone shooting these? Thoughts? Any load makes up suggestions?
It's on a Remington 700 customized platform.

Thanks I am currently shooting the Berger 130s and it shoots them great I just was looking for a little more hitting energy for a sheep round. I couldn't get the Berger 140s to shoot worth a ****. I may just go with what works.

A sheep round?! Well congrats- hope that means you have a tag in your pocket this fall!

A buddy that shoots the 140 Bergers for competition said around 48gr of 4350 or around 51gr of 4831sc.

For hunting Im leaning towards Barnes after seeing the results on deer this year with my 7mm.

I use Retumbo in my Cooper 6.5x284 with 140gr Bergers. Might give that a shot if you haven't tried it. Grey fox has a lot of info on this load on the forum.

I am shooting the 143 eldx with (I would need to verify this, but I think it correct...) 57gr of Retumbo and Lapua brass. Again would need to verify the exact numbers, but they are north of 2900 FPS out of a 24"barrel.

What seating depth are you doing?

My father in law and I just got back from South Africa. 5 animals harvested with the 6.5/284 using 127 gr barnes TTSX. All 5 animals were one shot and down within 20-40 yards of impact. I was impressed with the barnes. Was acutally surprised how much damage they did to some fairly large game. Huge Wildebeest and large Gemsbok went down 10-15 yards from impact.

What are you using to push those 127gr LRXs??

While I use the 140 Berger HVLD as my hunting load, I have done some work with the Hornady 143 ELD-X. Recipe is similar to my Berger !40 load.....seat the Hornady .040" off the lands.

My rifle didn't like the 143 as much as the 147 match. I'm getting 1/4" at 100yds. Cci200 Lapua Brass 53.7gr of 4831sc and 147 eld-m. Right at 2926fps dropped a Muley at 553 yds last season
