I was about to give up on 140vld and the 6.2 284 chamber on my Savage 111 LRH. My next step was to re-chamber to 264 WM.

But out of the blue I decided to try h1000 and br2 primers. No one I know really loads h1000 in this chamber.
This load , of course, will need verification. However, right now things are looking good! And the velocity is better than I expected!

Both groups of 4 were at 200 yards with 5mph headwind.

Nice to see that. I have one being chambered now and I was thinking of trying h-1000 since I have several pounds of it. Keep us posted on it.

Will do.
Last hunting season I had success with rl22 and 140s at 2920 fps. Two 8 points and a coyote.
But something strange happened when I returned from the trip. I decided to shoot the ammo that I loaded 4 months earlier, it shot horrible! Went from .6 moa to 1+ moa!
I don't know what happened unless it was a lot of hot/ cold cycles in and out of the truck with a temp sensitive powder.

That's awesome, I have the same rifle. I haven't tried h1000 but I use 56gr of retumbo with cci250 primers pushing the bullet at 3050. Great accuracy with this load.

Yeah Retumbo got around 3050 for me also. It shot good a 100 but out further it fell apart.
That's why I bring more than one rifle to the range so that I can be sure it's the load thats not performing and not just me having a bad day.
I've gone through almost 500 vlds and can't seem to find a consistent load.
That's why I'm so adamant about verifying loads repeatedly with this factory barrel. So I have loaded up more with h1000 for Saturday to give em hell !!

I also use H 1000 in my 6.5x284 and I also use the BR2 primer. Mine holds a 1/2" group out to a 1000 yrds. Haven't tried it any further.

Great pic! reminded me of one I shot a couple years ago. Not H1000 but a 140 VLD with H4831sc @ 265 yards...:D

Nice to see H1000 producing low es & sd. I've been tinkering with Retumbo, just sighting in &finding max safe load. Think I'll try the 1000, save my retumbo for the 338 RUM. I don't have any br2's though, will try cci250, then fed 210m & 215m.

Thanks for sharing, keep your results coming

I didn't feel great today and the wind wasn't exactly cooperating but I'm not done with this yet.

5 shots at 200 yards.

Wow I thought 55gr of H1000 was max in 6.5x284 with 140gr/142gr pills. My rifle seems to do better as the velocity increases but I've not used more than 54.5 grains. No pressure signs there. 26" barrel and custom chambered for 142gr SMK's but I've been working mostly with 140gr Berger Hybrid Hunters. I've been around 2930 fps with a 26" bbl.

I'm probably not going too far past 56.8 this for now. This throat is so long that I'm only at about 80% case capacity now, no ejector marks but I can feel the bolt getting firm.
