6.5 156 EOL

That what is was thinking. I think probably at best the 140VLD but more like a 135 classic hunter or a 130 VLD in my 264 that I have. Might even try a 129ABLR if I find them. Little light but still plenty good for any long range mule deer and smaller.
I concur, any of those would be more than sufficient, especially a .264 wm speeds

I'm running a 1-7 twist, 27" Bartlien with my own reamer.

1-9 wouldn't work for the 156s.
I would think not! 7 ought too do it for sure, but an 8 I'm not sure? I wonder if Berger has updated their twist calc with newer bullets? I have a 7.5 McGowan for 140 and up, but no 156s. I do have some Barnes 145 match burners for trial.

At 6,000' 0°, 2,700fps and 7 twist it's very stable at 2.05 according to Berger stability calc.

I finally got some of these 156 EOLs otw for my 6.5-284. I was planning to start at 53.0gr RL-26 and .030 off lands. Is this a good starting point or will it take a few more grains?

I'm currently shooting a Berger 140 VLD .030 off lands with 53.0 H4831SC.

I'd start at 53gr. If your are using Lapua brass and LR primers. My load is 54.2 gr Retumbo at 3000FPS, 26" barrel.

I was able to get some H1000. Do you think I would get more velocity with the H1000 or the RL26 with the 156? Should I try a load with it or just stick to the RL26? Thx

You will get more velocity with RL26 but it is not as temp stable in heat as H1000 and can give pressure spikes above ~85F as I have experienced in every I have loaded it in but it is very stable at lower temps.

This matches my experiences as well.

I've found the same, H1000 very consistent, RL26 considerably faster.

With all my load development I try and do it in the summer so I've already accounted for any possible spikes in pressure during warmer temps. You can always then run the numbers again for velocity in the winter when temp's are more mirroring your typical hunting season temps.

I also find H1000 in general to be much easier to work a load up with and RL26 being more sensitive to small changes in charge regardless of the temps.
