entrance, he was up against side of the canyon so it sounded like babe ruth made contact with another homerun blast at impact, whaaaaaap. Yes flipped right over
Just came back from Wyoming where I shot a whitetail(375 yards), and an antelope(521 yards), both mature bucks. Rifle was a 6.5x284, velocity 2950FPS, using R26/210M primers.. The whitetail was shot from a high angle behind the last rib damaging lungs and taking off the top of the heart. No exit, but I could not find the bullet or any fragments. He ran about 50 yards before dropping.....in heart-shot fashion. The antelope was shot at 521 yards, hitting high, behind the shoulder, on the spine. Entrance was about an inch, exit 2-3" with the spine completely damaged and full penetration. The bullet did expand well While down and immobile, he did require a finishing shot. As an aside, the 521 yard shot impacted a few inches higher then my point of aim. Temperature in the morning at 50F had snuck up to 80F by mid-day. I believe the higher temperature caused a high impact due to a velocity spike with R26. This was further evidenced by the difficult extraction of the case. In hindsight, I should taken note of the temperature increase and switched to my more temperature stable 142gr load. I had experienced this effect during load testing of my 156gr/R26 load.
Overall, with the exception of the temperature stability issue with the R26, for this sample of two out to 500 yards, the 156 performed well.

It is this reason I don't use RL 26 in a couple guns that see warm weather, it spiked in .243, 6.5x284, '06, 300 RUM but some say it is heat stable but I have not found that to be true, around 85F was where I saw big jumps. Things can really get hot sitting in the sun. In 6.5x284 I got to ~2,920fps with retumbo and couldn't get enough N570 in the case, I might try N560 if I find some as it's supposed to be good in the heat.

I developed my 6.5x284 with 53.7 rl26 in peterson brass. Shoots 2985fps in 85° and 2980 in 40° so far the coolest I've been able to test it. I've saw very little high end spiking. However I develop my loads in warm summer weather that probably keeps me safe.

I think it's when you start to get above 85, such as 95, 105 and such, that things start getting iffy. I use rl26, but here in Wyoming we rarely break 85, at times in the hot summers we will, but only rare occasions.

I have tested H1000, Retumbo and RL26 in my 6.5 Addiction (6.5x55 improved) with a 7.5T 26" Bartlein and all three ran around 3,000 fps. I'm sweating on getting my new (replacement) long action rifle up and running to shoot the 156 EOL and 150 SMK.

I have a 6.5 STW that I got a while ago and haven't had a chance to shoot it. I would like to try the 156gr bergers out of it with RL33. I know the case capacity on the 6.5 STW is about the same as the 26 Nosler and 6.5x300wby. So I'm thinking starting in the 73 to 74gr of Rl33 and working up. Does this sound about right, or does anyone have data for the 6.5 STW. Thanks
I'm running 74.5 of RL-33 in my .264 WM with excellent results with the 156s, only jumping them ten thou off lands. Base to Ogive of 2.920 for my chamber.
Any other 264 WM fans using this combo?

What twist rate are you running on that 264 with the RL33 combo. I have a stock unfired Sendero that I think only has a 1/9 twist. I dont think this one is fast enough twist to run the 156's.

I can't speak for him, but a 9 twist would not be a good option for the 156. It may shoot ok, but bc and terminal performance may suffer from the 9 twist. In the .264 wm, I run the 156 in a 7.5 twist.

That what is was thinking. I think probably at best the 140VLD but more like a 135 classic hunter or a 130 VLD in my 264 that I have. Might even try a 129ABLR if I find them. Little light but still plenty good for any long range mule deer and smaller.
