6.5 156 EOL

Just got around to trying some of the 156 EOL's in my CA Ridgeline. Using 82gr of RL 33 with a length of 2.8165" to the ogive. It produced a velocity of 3278 fps with a Sd of 4. Accuracy was excellent, sub .5 MOA ( only shot at 100yds). I was surprised at the velocity, as I couldn't find much info on this combination. No pressure signs either.

What case? That bullet is hauling @$$!!!

It was a new Nosler case, I tried 78gr and 80gr for RL 33 working up, accuracy was so so, but velocity was inline with the 82gr load. I was using a labradar so I feel like they were accurate readings.

What 6.5 cartridge are you shooting 82 grains in. 26 Nosler?

I'm not suprised, I'm hitting 3200+ at max with HBN coated 156's in a 26" 7.5 twist .264 win mag, using Retumbo, Federal magnum match primers, and ADG brass. Pressure work up was like this -

A 26 nosler should have no issue topping this!! 3275 and great accuracy is pretty sweet!

What's your COAL if you're 2.8165" to the ogive? Can you post a pic of a loaded round? I'm intrigued by the idea of the big Nosler case pushing one of these super heavies!

Unfortunately I can't right now. I do all of my loading and shooting at my dads place. I probably won't be back up there for 2 weeks. I will take a pic next time I'm up there. The bullet is down in the case pretty far.

You have one of those extra long mag boxes that let you load to 3.8+ inches?

Ran 5 shots over the chrono out of my 20" suppressed 6.5 creed today, Berger factory ammo with the 156 EOL. Avg right at 2,550 fps, chart on the box advertises 2,650 so sounds about right.

I ran it through AB to see how much it would carry at 5,000' altitude. Thinking of taking it to WY for mule deer and antelope this October, using either this 156 or the 135 classic hunter at 2,720 fps.

at 500 yards:
135 = 2148 fps and 1383 ft-lbs
156 = 2065 fps and 1477 ft-lbs

I think this 156 has some serious mojo...

If you handload with RL26 and push that thing out closer to the lands, I bet you'll get close to 2750fps. Even more of a good thing.

I was gonna shoot for 2,700 after I get this factory ammo shot up. Also expect to see this bartlein barrel speed up a little in another 50-100 rounds. I've only got 70 rounds down the pipe now.

Excited to see where you take it. I'm also breaking-in a 20" 6.5CM (Proof) that will be used with my Ultra7. I'll mostly hunt with Hammers, but I am curious to see what I can get out of the 156 EOL.
