6.5-06AI or 6.5-284?

I have a 116 savage with accutrigger chambered in 30-06 and plan to rebarrel it with a 28" Varmit Contour Shilen this winter. It is quite simple to order the barrel in 6.5-06AI not get into any feeding issues etc. My question is if I were to choose the 6.5-284 what issues like feeding ect... will I be getting into?

My goal is a good long range (800 yd) deer rifle.

I'm guess from experience the there will be feeding problems because of the larger case diameter. They don't seem to fit the round contour of the guide on top of the magazine spring. Seems the first couple work then the last one pops out into action guffey. Single shot no problem.
