6.5/06

Not tried RL26 need to find some now. Great groups! If I can't recover my 270 accuracy may consider re-barrel to 6.5/06 me and my son are trying to build a good rifle for his daughters and my wife.

Has anyone tried using LC brass in forming the 6.5-06. My thinking is you can use less powder to reach the same velocities maybe adding some barrel life

Despite its slopey shoulders & relatively long length the old 6.5-06 shoots real good. I use whatever powders I can scrounge up - like 4000MR, IMR4831, R-S Hunter, R-S Magnum. I have some H1000 & RL23 stashed away. My rifles have 8 twists. I shoot 123 ELDM's at rodents and 140 Barnes Match Burners & 140 Hornady hpbt's at targets. In the distant past I used LC 06 Match brass, surplus H4831 (salvaged from pulled 20mm cannon rounds, red & yellow cardboard container) & Sierra 140 Game King bullets. Recoil is reasonable & with right bullet it would be good for elks. I had some 2 1/2-gallon gas cans filled with surplus H4831 & a new Douglas #6, 6.5-barrel cost $65 complete, threaded, fitted, chambered, polished & blued.

So I've always been interested in the 6.5/06 finally finished up my build it started with a Remington 700 DM( if your building a gun don't use the DM they suck)it's got a 26"Lilja barrel and timny trigger shooting the 143 ELD X and RL26 topped with Leupold vx5 hd View attachment 202008View attachment 202010View attachment 202008View attachment 202009(I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas) can't wait for black tail deer season here's a couple of pictures
Duct tape solves the problem of the factor DBM falling out.😆

Looks like you're off to the races with this one.
