45 ACP on Brown Bear.????

Magnum Research / Desert Eagle makes some autos in .50AE, .429DE, 44 Mag, 357 Mag... with decent mag capacity. Never shot one myself though.

I've owned the DE in .50AE. That hog weighs more than some rifles :D I cannot recommend a DE for defense. If you limp wrist one (think one handed draw while fending off a bear), it won't cycle. And the recoil just might toss it out of your hand. I've watched stout men nearly smack themselves in the forehead.

You would have to practice, a LOT. I'd personally vote wheel gun with hard cast bullets. .41mag, .44mag. Something with a lot of punch but still manageable enough to handle in a high threat situation. I still own a .500S&W... I wouldn't recommend it either.

I saw a 1911 for sale at a Gun Show with a documented story behind it. It was in a display case with pictures and the story. It showed a young Airman in the Airforce standing next to a big Brown outside the Air Base in AK. The bear was dead and the young Airman was holding a 1911 .45. He killed the Brown that was charging him. Government .45 Ball ammo.

I might consider a 460 Rowland
In a glock model 41, it's a high capacity hammer.
