4-16x vs 6-24 Dual Purpose Rifle

Hello,

New to LRH Forum. Searched couldn't find this topic covered. Recently got a platform in 6.5 Creedmoor. I am looking to have this rifle do double duty. Both shooting out to 1000+ and use for hunting larger game between 75 and 300 yards. Looks like a thread said that 6-24 might be too much, but that looks like that person was only trying to use it for hunting only.

I am concerned with the field of view on the 6x but having the extra range on it would be nice for long range. And with the price difference one the Diamondback tactical (FFP) being 50 dollars for these two variants I am leaning towards the 6x-24.

I have heard you want 2X for every 100 yards so if I want to go out to 1000+ should have 20X.

I would do a 4-16x or 5-20x if you plan to hunt and shoot long range.

6x is not a wider enough FOV inside of 150 yards.
Rule of thumb is 1x per 100 yards (some folks prefer 1.5x per 100 yards) so a 15x will take you to 1000 yards no issue.

Question, do you prefer 1st or 2nd FP?

FFP is preference, 18'FOV is not good enough at 100 yards? That would be 9 feet at 50, I doubt I will ever be in a tree stand which would be inside 50

I'm using a Vortex HS 4-16x44 which is 2fp. I like the consistency of 2fp reticle. Good glass for the price and happy hunting with them and range to 500.

I would go 4-16 and move up to the Viper line of scopes.

4x16 is much better for hunting and in hot climates if your range shooting is in the summer it may be hard to use all 24 power on some days, mirage. I say that living in AR, AZ is worse.
1000 yd. target at 16x is like the same size target at 62.5 yds. at 1x, with a 10x same as the target being at 100 yds, young eyes can go even with a 10x, but at 67 years old 24x is easier but you give up more on the hunting end, not to mention the 4x16 being a little more compact.

Why not look at 3-18 power scopes? Better then. 16 power with lower options. I don't like anything above 5 for a minimum as 6 power at 100 yards in a rushed situation can be difficult to get on target. I have a 6-24 and I always wish it was a 3-4 on the bottom end.
